Tutankhamun |
Tutankhamun was a Pharaoh (king) in Egypt about 3,000 years ago. He became Pharaoh when he was eight or nine years old.
When he was ten years old, Tutankhamun married his half sister. After some years she gave birth to two baby girls, but they both died.
When he was about 19 years old, Tutankhamun died. He was buried in a tomb. Many beautiful things were placed in the tomb with him. His baby girls were also buried in his tomb. But nobody knows how he died. |

A painting from Tutankhamun's tomb. He is in a chariot; he has a bow and arrows. |
After he was buried, the entrance to his tomb was hidden; it was covered by stones and sand. But in 1922, it was discovered by a man called Howard Carter. He found Tutankhamun's coffin. He also found more than 5,000 beautiful things in the tomb. There was a chariot in the tomb and some bows and arrows. Tutankhamun's left leg was broken. Maybe he broke his leg when he was hunting in his chariot. Maybe that is how he died. |
Ask your friends:
Have you ever found something?
What was it?
How did it get there?
How was it lost?
What did you do with it?
Ask your friends to use the word `maybe' in some of their answers.
Now write about something you found.
What did you find?
How did it get there? (Maybe…)
How was it lost? (Maybe…)
What did you do with it?
