americans celebrate flag day on june 14 because they adopted their first national flag on june 14 in 1777. in 1916, president woodrow wilson officially established that day as flag day. then, in 1949, also congress established it as national flag day. still, flag day is not an official federal holiday. on june 14, 1937, pennsylvania became the first and only us state to celebrate flag day as a state holiday.
