Ian Faria has some simple
ways to build the confidence
you
need
to
overcome
challenges and succeed
The origin of confidence could
be traced back to childhood,
and how our parents, family,
teachers and friends treated us.
However,
confidence
is
a
dynamic quality, and is never
static. It changes from time to
time,
and
is
altered
by
circumstances,
or
more
specifically, how we respond
and
react
to
those
circumstances.
The good news is that we
control our level of self-
confidence, and even if this
attribute was not built in
childhood, it can be built at any
period of our lives.
Here are some surefire ways to build your confidence:
Perception
Life is not what happens to us, but how we perceive what happens to us. We should
therefore look at the good in whatever happens. When Mahatma Gandhi fought the
might of the British Empire, he had a number of setback and threats. But he took
each of these as a challenge and it only re-enforced his resolve. We too can look at
setbacks in our lives, not as problems, but as challenges that we need to overcome.
When we actually overcome the challenge, we build our confidence even more.
Look at the positive side
Looking at things positively, prepares the mind to win. Every thought that we have is a
seed that we plant, and this will grow and produce fruit. If the thought was positive,
positive fruits will be produced. So we should train ourselves to think positive, speak
positive and do positive deeds.

Visualise victory
Just like we have to put in many hours of practice before we can perform on stage, or
play a match, we have to practice winning in our minds, before we can win in reality.
This mental practice is done through visualisation, where we imagine what we want,
in the way that we want it. We should see ourselves winning, and we should smile to
our selves as we imbibe the feeling of that achievement. Repeated visualising adds to
the credit balance.
Affirmations are positive statements that utilise the power of words. Repeating these
as often as possible builds confidence. Here are a few affirmations that are very
effective. "I am strong, and I will win”.” I can and I will”.” Everyday in every way, I get
better, stronger and smarter".
Remember, we have within us all that we need to win, and we were programmed to
succeed. All we need to do is to make up our minds and move.
