I. READING
Simon was fourteen in 2000. He was a student at school in
Newcastle. Four years later, he left school and went to
London University. He is graduating this June. He's going to
work for a famous advertising agency in London. He got this
job last year and worked there for three months in the
summer. He has had a new flat in New Malden for half a
year. New Malden is in the suburbs of southern London. He
lived in a student hostel for four years.
The only sport Simon likes is football, so he remembers
when France won the World Cup in 1998. Brazil lost in '98
but they won in 2002. Two years ago, Italy (1) ……….. the

Simon remembers that Tony Blair was Prime Minister of the
UK in 2000, and Gordon Brown has been Prime Minister
since June 2007. Simon is happy that twelve countries in

Ten new countries joined European on 1 May 2004. Poland
