Hay Time
The children were very happy on the farm. They had a lot of
interesting work, a lot of fresh air and a lot of the best food.
They had a lot of friends there. Aunt Sophia was very good to
them and the farm workers were their friends. Tom and Henry
liked Peter very much. He always showed them how to work
with the horses and the tools and the machines. Jane and
Barbara liked Mary very much. They often helped her with the
cows, and the fresh milk was so good.
One day Peter took the boys to the shed. There were farm
machines and tools and a horse mower. “Look here, boys!”
said Peter, “We are going to make hay. Michael must cut the
grass in the large meadow with this tractor mower. But the
small meadow by the river is full of trees and bushes and
Michael can't drive his tractor there. Do you help me to cut the
grass there?” “Oh, yes Peter, we do!” answered the boys.
