THE OPERATING MANUAL OF „ PROSPECTOR”

METAL DETECTOR

I.

Descirption of switching and regulating elements

1. Switches

ON – device’s battery is on.
BATT – battery control, the indicator light should be found in the green set od diodes (with „BATT”

writing ). If the indicator light is in the left red set of diodes it means that the batteries are discharged and

they have to be replaced.

NORM –(static ) normal, basic kind of the device’s work, manual line of adaptation to the ground.
AUTO – ( dynamic ) automatic regulation of adaptation to the ground, the device does not react to change of

height of the probe above the ground.

2. Buttons:
RESET – causes the right (reset) configuration during a possible detunong.

DISC:
NO – causes configuration of the device’s work without metal detection. For every metal the indicator

light goes from the middle to the left.
YES – ( discrimination ), work with differentiating the kinds of metal into iron and colorful ( rusting and

not-rusting ).

3. Knobs:
SENSITIVITY – regulator of sensitivity ( depth of detection )of the device.

Setting the knob maximally to the right results in the greatest sensitivity but with certain influence of the
ground on the signal. In the case of strong quivering of the signal, it may be neccesary to decrease the

sensitivity to e.g. 8.
GROUND – regulator of manual adjusting the signal to the ground. The range of regulation includes also

different kinds of ground. The „0” marker indicates typical conditions. The active knob with the AUTO work
on. For 0 to -5 ranges, when the probe is quickly moved towards the ground, the signal increases –

elimination of colorful metals takes place there. For 0 to + 5 ranges, when the probe is quickly moved
towards the ground, the signal decreases (it muffles itself). This knob has to be adjusted so that there is no

signal difference between a raised and lowered probe from/towards the ground, with simultaneous non-
elimination of colorful metals.

DISC – this regulator is designed to determine the rejected metal surface ( metal distinction ). The higher
value we set on the scale, the greater rejection of iron metals, the sound fades. The active knob with NORM

work on.
For marker’s configuration:

3-5 – distinction of small objects [between a coin and a cap]
6-10 – distinction of medium objects [between a shovel and a canteen]

After crossing the „7” marker, rejection of little objects made from colorful metals amy take place.
TRESHOLD – regulator used during initial tuning of the device before starting work. You might search with

leading signal adjusted to be faintly audible or to be minimally below the audibility of the leading signal.

VOLUME – regulator of sound force amplification. It has to be regulated with earphones turned on. When

using the loudspeaker, setting on 10 is advisable.

Tuning of the device.

Knob setting:

VOLUME –10

TRESHOLD – „5” marker

SENSITIVITY – 10

GROUND – „0” marker

DISCRIMINATION – „5” marker

Turn the power on by raising ON

Raise BATT. Diode in the BATT HIGH range should shine. Lower BATT.

Press RESET for a moment [up to around 3S]. The sound will stabilize itself on or below the sound

treshold [according to the setting of TRESHOLD knob].

After turning the NORM work on, the detector works in the static work mode and adjusting to the ground

takes place when you press the RESET button.

After turning the AOTu work on, the detector works in the dynamic work mode and adjusting to the

ground takes place automatically. When in this work mode, the detector does not distinguish kinds of

metal.

After turning DISC YES on, the detector distinguishes metals, depending on the configuration of DISC

knob.

After turning the DISC NO on, the detector does not distinguish between metals.

III.

Exploration of the device.

While searching, the probe should be held on equal height above the ground. If there is a slow, unintended

signal change, the light indicator will be slowly proceeding from the middle to the left or right, the signal
will disappear or strenghten itself. You should press RESET button for a moment. While working in

changed ground, terrain conditions or in buildings, you should switch on the AUTO work mode. The device
becomes less sensible to the type of the ground and heihgt of the probe above the ground.

While working in the AUTO mode you should search the terrain with quick moves of the probe.
While working in AUTO YES on, the surface of a rejected object depends on the location of AUTO knob. This

being the case, you should earlier check at home at what position of this knob (the number of the marker),
iron objects of what size are rejected. You should also remember in what position of the meter (the number

of the marker), the detector starts rejecting petty objects form colorful metals.
For AUTO work, you should set the GROUND knob so that raising and lowering the probe from/towards the

ground does not cause considerable change of the signal in the loudspeaker.
When the batteries are discharged, a pulsating acoustic signal appears. Another sign of the batteries being

discharged is „remembering” the sound signal from a detected metal by the detector [the so-called drawing
of the signal].

Remember:

-

NORM NO – greatest sensitivity of the detector.

-

NORM YES – the possibility of metal distinguishing.

-

AUTO – lower sensitivity, independence form terrain conditions.

-

DISC. “5” – distinguishing between a coin and a cap [distinguishing small metal objects].

-

DISC. “8” – distinguishing between a metal shovel and an aluminium canteen [distinguishing big

metal objects].

Sensitivity of the detector depends on the detected surface of the metal and not on the volume or weight of
the metal.

In the case of damaging the detector, a complete one has to be delivered to metal detector service. Any
manipulation in the system is forbidden under the pain of loss of warranty. The device is delivered and

taken from the service at the owner’s cost. The detector can be sent to service by mail if you give your
address and signs of malfunctioning.

Exchange of batteries involves unscrewing four knobs on the base of the manipulator.
