Applications
The diaphragm seal is a pressure-transmitting diaphragm device. The pressure signal is sent to a connected
pressure measuring device (pressure transmitter, manometer) by means of a manometer liquid which fills the
space between the separating diaphragm of the diaphragm seal and the pressure measuring device. The
purpose of the diaphragm seal is to isolate the pressure measuring device from harmful properties of the
medium, such as:
– low or high temperature, increased viscosity, impurities;
– vibration of the installation (remote diaphragm seal);
– pulsating pressure which might damage the pressure measuring device.
The S-DIN and S-Clamp diaphragm seals have standard hygienic connections which enable measurements
to be taken in aseptic conditions. These seals are typically used for pressure measurement in the food and
pharmaceutical industries.
Maximum range: 0...2.5 MPa.

* The ranges given in the table for the variable-range APC-2000 transmitter should be taken as regulated ranges.
Note: for measurement ranges lower than those given in the table, we recommend special models of dia-
phragm seal: Clamp 3" and DIN 80 mm.
Additional absolute error of zero caused by ambient temperature fluctuation,
for seal used with a pressure transmitter
Type of diaphragm seal
Absolute error of zero
direct
0.08 kPa / 10°C
remote (2 m capillary)
0.5 kPa / 10°C
For special models of diaphragm seal used with pressure transmitters (larger diameter) thermal errors decrease in pro-
portion to the cube of the active diameter of the separating diaphragm.
An additional error of zero relating to medium temperature fluctuation is dependent on the temperature gradient in the oil-
based diaphragm sealing system, but it is always significantly smaller than the errors given in the table.
Medium temperature range
-30...200°C for remote diaphragm sealing
-20...150°C for direct diaphragm sealing
-30...85°C for operation in ranges to -100 kPa

Example: PC-28 transmitter, range 0 ÷ 600 kPa, electrical connector, DIN 50 mm remote diaphragm seal,
capillary length 1.5 m.
PC-28 / 0 ÷ 600 kPa / PD / S-DIN 50K / K = 1.5 m
How to order

remote diaphragm seal: pressure measuring device / S-.......K / K = ..... m / special version (description)
