Printer Cutter Option
The cutter option is a label liner and paper cut-
ter for the desktop bar code printers.
The printer with cutter is a factory installed op-
tion, only. The cutter unit is not designed for
field reconfiguration to a standard, non-cutter
printer.
Do not cut labels!
The cutter should not cut labels. Only the label
liner should be cut in the gap between labels.
The labels are adhesive backed and may cause
the cutter to jam.
NEVER place your fingers or other foreign
objects inside the cutter. Personal injury could
result.
Programming
Considerations
Label creation software, operating system driv-
ers (i.e. Windows printer driver) or direct com-
mand programming is required to send cutter
control commands to the printer.
Use the Option Select (O) command to enable
and disable cutter option, enable batch print
cut and cut after specified number of labels.
The Cut Position (f) command is used to adjust
the cut position.
The printer is factory configured for cut-
ter operation.

WARNING
f Command - Cut Position
Description Use this command on an individual printer to
provide precision cut placement.
• Compensate sensor to cutter position differ-
ences on a printer by printer basis.
• Fine-tune cut position to compensate for dif-
ferences in media.
Syntax
fp
1
Parameters
p
1
= cut position index measured in dots.
Acceptable values: 070 to 130. The default
value is 100.
When using the label liner cutter option, the
printer will advance each printed label to the
appropriate programmed offset cut position,
between labels, before cutting. Due to media
differences, the printer may not accurately po-
sition the labels before cutting, causing the cut-
ter to cut the label instead of the liner.
The printer’s cutter is not designed to cut
labels. Labels have adhesive that may interfere
with the proper operation of the cutter.
Only cut label liner and tag stock and do not
exceed the specified media density and
thickness of the cutter.
If the cut position causes the label just printed
to be cut, increase the cut position index value
(>100). If the cut position causes the label fol-
lowing the one just printed to be cut, decrease
the cut position index value (<100).

OC Command - Cutter Option Select
Description This sub-command is used to enable the cutter
option feature when installed. This
sub-command set of the O command works
with other O Option commands.
See the Command Reference, Section 2, and
the Advanced Programming, Appendix G, in
the EPL2 programmer’s manual for additional
O (Option) command parameters.
Syntax OC[p
1
]
Enables the label liner cutter. The cutter
will cut at the end of each form as specified by
the Q command.
Parameters
p
1
= Sets number of labels to print prior to cut.
If a number between 1 - 255 is specified for
p1, the printer will cut after the specified
number of labels have been printed. If b is
specified for p1, the “batch print & cut”
feature is enabled. This feature uses the P
command to control cutter operation.
When using direct thermal media in a TLP
series printer, the proper option command to
enable the cutter is OD,C.
Examples:
O
:disables all options.
OC
:enables cutter only, labels are cut after each
:label is printed, disables all other options
OC125
:labels are cut after the 125th label has printed,
:disables all other options
OCb
:labels are cut after a batch of five has printed,
...
:disables all other options

WARNING
U Command
Verify the printer’s configuration with the Print
Configuration (U) command. See Option: on
print configuration printout.
A detailed description of printer commands are
located in the EPL2 programming manual.
Removing Objects
In Cutter
Turn the printer power off and remove the me-
dia or object from the cutter with tweezers.
Cutter Cleaning
Not Recommended. Never use solutions or
solvents to clean the blade. Blade lubrication
and sharpness can be effected.
Cutting
Limitations
The cutter is designed to cut roll paper and la-
bel liner (backing). It is strongly recommended
that the cutter not be used to cut labels (or any
other adhesive backed materials). The adhe-
sive may jam the blade.
