1. Important notes
1.1. Vehicle treatment
1.1.1. Incorrect pop-up on invalid IP address during programming
Important!
During vehicle handling with ISTA/P an incorrect pop-up with notice of
an invalid IP address can appear.
If an incorrect pop-up is displayed, it can be ignored and the session
may be continued.
The pop-up only appears correctly for the following series:
F20, F21, F22, F23, F30, F31, F32, F33, F34, F35
with multimedia platform (CHAMP2) or with Car Information Computer
(CIC)

1.1.2. Programming aborts due to antivirus software and firewall
Important!
In individual cases, installed security software (antivirus software or
firewall) causes programming aborts of different head units.
Model series affected:
F-series I01, I12
With G11, G12, this can additionally affect the following Ethernet control
units: ATM, FRR, SAS, ICAM, KAFAS, RSE, KOMBI
(BMW-internal locations are not affected by the fault)

1.1.3. Vehicle order import fails due to antivirus software and firewall
Important!
In individual cases, the vehicle order-import fails because of installed
security software (antivirus software or firewall). After the session starts,
the vehicle identification with ISTA/P fails.
(BMW-internal locations are not affected by the fault)
Measure/workaround:

1.1.4. ISTA/P execution lock G11, G12 with engine B58 and optional equipment 5DV
Important!
A dialogue box appears at the start of the ISTA/P session.
"Execution lock:
Please observe the Release Notes, a session with this vehicle may not
be currently recommended or enabled."
Background:
The vehicle jerks during automatic parking.
Affected vehicles:
G11, G12 with engine B58 and optional equipment 5DV
Measure/workaround:
Please contact Technical Support.

Lifting of the execution lock is planned with ISTA/P version P3.59.3.

1.1.5. Voice recognition of the navigation system (HU-H) does not work
Important!
After vehicle management with ISTA/P the voice recognition of the
navigation system no longer works.
Background:
The head unit software has a dependency on the map data as of I level
16-07. Map data before 2016-2 cannot be processed properly.
Affected vehicles:
F-, G- and I-series with multimedia platform (HU-H)
Series I levels: older than 16-07-500
Map data: older than Road Map EVO 2016-2
Markets: China, Japan and Korea
Measure/workaround:
Carry out a HDD-Update to new map data:
- Road Map China EVO 2016-2
- Road Map Japan EVO 2016-2
- Road Map Korea EVO 2016-2

2. General notes
Please deal with vehicle-related programming/encoding and activation faults via
Technical Support.
Please report functional faults on the vehicle directly to Technical Support.
All the known and still open faults of the current version that are relevant for the
dealer organisation are listed in the User Release Notes.
For some actions (e.g. conversion (encoding only), HDD updates, etc.), ISTA/P
does not update the integration level if the measures for updating the integration
level are cancelled. The current status of the "Integration level (actual)" of the
vehicle is retained after the action has successfully been completed. Then under
"Finalising tasks" in the final report, one or more actions and notes can be
displayed that are necessary for a possible update of the integration level.

5.1. Programming
5.1.1. F16 Programming of ASD not possible
Fault description:
During programming of the ASD, it is indicated that programming is not possible.
Model series affected:
F16 with N63 and production date before 1/8/2015
Measure / Workaround:
For F16 with N63 and production date before 1/8/2015:
ISTA/P suggests a special measures plan to repair the ASD control unit. Do not
accept this measures plan.
A general measures plan for programming the vehicle without ASD is then created
and executed.
The fault is displayed again during the next session.

The fault no longer occurs when using ISTA Next.

5.1.2. Terminal 15 switches off during vehicle treatment
Fault description:
During the treatment with ISTA/P, terminal 15 switches off sporadically.
Model series affected:
F20, F21, F22, F23, F25, F26, F30 (HEV, PHEV), F31, F32, F33, F34, F35, F36, F80,
F82, F83, F87
Measure/workaround:
1. Insert driver's seat belt
2. Switch terminal 15
3. Then attach ICOM
4. Start ISTA/P session

5.1.3. Invalid IP address for BN2020 Ethernet control units
Fault description:
During Vehicle Handling with ISTA/P one of the following Ethernet-capable control
units should be programmed:HU-H, RSE, ATM, KOMBI, ACC, ICAM, KAFAS
At the start of the session, a note appears in ISTA/P, indicating that the IP address is
invalid. The Ethernet programming can fail if the following steps are not followed:

Measure / Workaround:
1. End ISTA/P session
2. Carry out a battery reset
3. Restart the session
4. If the fault message continues to appear: Check that the Ethernet wiring in the
vehicle corresponds to the wiring diagram in ISTA
5. If the fault message continues to appear: Contact Technical Support

5.1.4. Manual import of vehicle order (central encoding key) fails
Fault description:
During vehicle handling with ISTA/P, the vehicle order (central encoding key) cannot
be imported manually via data management or data carrier.
Various popups can appear indicating the failed vehicle order import.

5.1.5. Programming the CICR head unit takes a long time
Fault description:
The programming of vehicles with CICR using ICOM Next takes a long time.
Model series affected:
E60, E61, E63, E64, E70, E71, E72, E81, E82, E84, E87, E88, E89, E90, E91, E92,
E93
Measure / Workaround:
Please use an ICOM A1 or A2.
Fault corrected by:

5.1.6. Programming the CHAMP2 fails
Fault description:
Programming the CHAMP2 using ICOM Next fails with the fault code 2020.
Model series affected:
R55, R56, R57, R58, R59, R60, R61
Measure/workaround:
Please use an ICOM A1 or A2.

Fault elimination is expected with ICOM Next firmware 03-14-09.

5.2. Encoding
5.2.1. Encoding of Crash Safety Module (ACSM) fails sporadically
Fault description:
During treatment of the vehicle with ISTA/P, the encoding of the control unit, Crash
Safety Module (ACSM) fails sporadically when writing the encoding test stamp.
Model series affected:
I01, I12
F45, F46, F48, F49, F54, F55, F56, F57
Measure/workaround:
If the ACSM encoding is not successful: Restart the session.

5.3. Control unit replacement
5.3.1. Digital Motor Electronics (DME) cannot be programmed after exchange
Fault description:
After exchanging the Digital Motor Electronics (DME) control unit, subsequent
programming with ISTA/P is interrupted. It may not be possible to start the engine and
the malfunction indicator lamp is switched on.

E90, E70, E71
Engine version N55,
Measure / Workaround:

5.5.1. Post programming initialisation (service function, initialisation, adjustment) failing
Fault description:
Post programming initialisation (service function, initialisation, adjustment) failing
sporadically.
Series affected:

Measure/workaround:
Repeat post programming initialisation in ISTA/P or perform using ISTA.

5.6. Conversions / retrofitting
5.6.1. Conversion "CDN-US" is carried out incorrectly
Fault description:
After carrying out the conversion "CDN-US" or "US-CDN", the fault code entry
0x030351 with "steering column switch cluster (LIN): incorrect variants" is in the
concluding report.
Model series affected:
F15, F16, F25, F26, F85, F86
F45, F46, F48, F49, F54, F55, F56, F57
National-market version Canada/US
Measure / Workaround:
In the event of a conversion, the steering column switch cluster (SZL) is to be
replaced, since the labelling on the component varies for the different countries.
Fault corrected by:
No fault elimination.

5.6.2. Retrofitting "Detachable trailer tow hitch" fails
Fault description:
The retrofitting "Detachable trailer tow hitch" fails for vehicles without optional
equipment 8SL.
Model series affected:
F45, F46, F48, F49, F54 without optional equipment 8SL
Measure/workaround:
Contact Technical Support.
Fault corrected by:
The retrofitting "Preparation for retrofitting trailer tow hitch" is expected to be available
with ISTA/P Version P3.59.3. This must be carried out before the retrofitting
"Removable trailer tow hitch".
