Origami Tyrannosaurus
Donya Quick
Recommended paper: 10cm or larger.
Difficulty: low intermediate.
This tutorial is for a “roaring” Tyrannosaurus. Smaller paper will need to be thinner,
otherwise the model is more likely to splay when standing.
Begin with steps 1-9 of the Parasaurolophus (solid color design, 11 folds total).
Steps 1 – 4 (4 folds): rabbit-ear fold the left side in, and then rabbit-ear fold again on the
new small flap, which will become a leg. Pull out some paper so that the lower edge of
the leg is parallel to the upper edge. Fold the left side underneath to the midline.
Steps 5 – 6 (8 folds): pleat the leg to define the knee and ankle. Repeat steps 1-5 on the
other side. Fold the top portion of the model down, and then rabbit-ear fold.

Steps 9 – 12 (5 folds): pleat the body, then fold the model in half. Asymmetrical squash
fold to form the arms on both sides. Outside reverse fold to form the mouth.
Steps 13 – 16 (6 folds): crimp-fold the neck to rotate the head. Lift the top flap up to form
the upper jaw. Tuck the tips of the upper and lower jaw underneath. Fold the edges of the
body underneath to narrow it.
