This revision corrects
the quantity of hardened

and adds the torque
converter spacer.
SUBJECT: TORQUE CONVERTER DRIVE PLATE AND MOUNTING HARDWARE
The origianl drive plate has been replaced with a new spoked drive plate to increase service life. The new
drive plate is Tufftrided for increased strenght and aiblity to resist flexing.
Tufftriding is a thin (0.004) surface hardening. It is important that nothing cut through this surface or the
plate will be weakened. The installation instructions should be carefully followed to prevent damage to the
surface.

Installation:
Check flywheel and converter mounting surfaces for burrs. Measure distance from outer surface of flywheel
to machined recess of flywheel. See drawing:

Manufacture and install a spacer the thickness of dimension  A figure 2 and conforming to the dimensions
of Figure 2, install this spacer in place of the reinforcing ring.
Use the special hardened washers under all mounting hardware. Where a capscrew was used a place bolt
should be installed.
Note: Under no circumstances should a lock washer be installed next to the flex plate. The locking action
of the washes will cut the surface harding, and cause a stress riser. Do not use lock washers with
place bolts. Do not reuse place bolts that have been installed with lockwashers. If placebolts are
not available, grade 5 capscrew and lockwashers may be used. Install lockwashers on top of the
hardened washers..
Torque to 40 ft. -lbs. 5.5 kg-m.

Interchangeability:
The new drive plate, 12 special washers and placebolts replace the original drive plate, reinforcing ring and
common hardware. Do not replace parts individually.
