It is possible that RM-1 (6630) device security area will get corrupted in
certain cases. Corruption gives “start up failed – contact retailer” message to
phone screen on start up. If flashing new software doesn’t work it is possible
that the root cause is corrupted security area.
Fault is very similar as in RAP3G or HELEN fault so it is very important to
check, if the problem is corrupted security area.
Do not scrap phone with
corrupted security area because this can be fixed now.
How security area gets corrupted
Case 1:
- If device needs to be tuned (RF or EM) after certain component change it
is possible that security area gets corrupted.
Case 2:
- After writing certificates device security area might get corrupted.
Case 3:
- If D3000 (NOR memory) is changed the device needs to be tuned and
certificates needs to be restored. This will cause most likely security area
corruption.
How to identify security area corruption:
It is possible that device security area is corrupted, if phone gives “start up
failed – contact retailer” message on start up. This can be test by using
Phoenix service software self tests option.
1. Attach RM-1 (6630) device to corrected service tool (AD-23SF or MJ-26)
2. Make sure you have activated SX-4 smart card in use.
3. Open Phoenix
4. Scan product

5. Open Testing menu and choose Self Tests
6. Find ST_SECURITY_TEST option and mark it
7. Press Start and wait until test is done.
8. If Result is Failed it is possible that device security area is corrupted.
9. If Result is Passed security area is OK

If phone security area is corrupted:
If security self test fails, it is necessary to make sure that the problem is not in
software downgrade attempt. This can be checked by flashing the latest
software into device and by running the self tests again. If ST_Security_Test
fails after this it is possible that security area is corrupted.
Repair actions:
RM-1 MCU SW version 5.03.08 and later includes fixes for the security area
corruption and devices with corrupted security are can be fixed with following
procedure:
1. Flash the phone with MCU SW 5.03.08 or later
2. Restore certificates
3. Check that product includes HWID with Phoenix Production Data Edit tool
4. IF HWID information is missing, please write it manually. Use HWID 5440
as new HWID, if the information is missing
5. Perform tunings (RF-tuning, EM-tuning)
After this the device is fully functional again.
