satin (lining); 4 mm faceted beads
in salmon, white 9/0 seed beads,
6 mm white concave sequins, and
also sewing and quilting threads
(all from Gütermann creativ); small
safety pin (to fit into casing) and

Instructions: Use photocopier to

Sewing:

pieces

together, right sides facing. Stitch
together along rounded edge,
leaving openings in seam between
dashed lines on each side for the
drawstrings. Secure beginnings
and ends of seam with back-
stitching at these points. Stitch

satin pieces together in same man-
ner, wrong sides facing, but only
leaving opening in seam on base
of bag. Turn organza unit right
side out. Slide organza unit into
satin unit so that right side of
organza is facing wrong side of
satin. Stitch upper edges together
all around. Trim seam allowances
to 7 mm (

") wide and finger press

seam open. Turn bag right side out
through seam opening. Sew seam
opening closed. Stitch as indicated
by dashed lines on pattern to form
casing for drawstrings.
Decorate bag front with beaded
fringe. Thread seed beads, sequins
and faceted beads to form strings
measuring 3 to
15 cm (1

desired. Thread beads as follows:
Run the beading needle with
thread several times through the
first (= lowest) bead, then knot the
working thread and thread end
together. Now thread further seed
beads, sequins, and faceted beads
to reach the desired length. Sew
the upper end of the quilting
thread to the front side of the bag
and secure with backstitches.
Stagger the strings of beads,
placing longer strings along casing
and shorter strings further down.
Shorter strings can also fill spaces
between longer strings.
To close the bag, sew drawstrings
from satin strips as follows: Fold
each strip in half lengthwise, rignt
side facing in. Stitch long edges
together at width of presser foot.
Turn right side out. Use safety pin
as bodkin to pull drawstrings
through casing. Run one draw-
string into opening on right side,
around bag, and out the same
opening and run second draw-
string into opening on left side,
etc. Knot ends of each drawstring
together.
Tip: Why not decorate the back
side of the bag with beads as well?
