ARTISTS NOTES
I want to praise the Lord for the gift of music and the
ability to express my praise to Him through music. Apart
from Him I am just a tinkling cymbal and sounding gong
I want to thank all those who have been vital support-
ers of this ministry and the music that the Lord has given.
It has always been because of you that the songs come
out. Your life stories are what I can sing about. You are my
inspiration.
I also want to say thank you to the writers of the great
hymns of old. Though many times we have overlooked
their work, they have been a powerful tool for reaching the
lost for many years.
I want to send out a special thank you to some of the
churches that have been faithful to lift me and my family
up in prayer. Pastors and worship leaders, deacons and
elders, too numerous to list. If I haven’t said it before, I
want to say it now, thanks.
Pastor Ron Hogue, you taught me what it means to
not lead music but guide worship.
Pastor Jay Shearwood, you blessed me as a friend
and mentor. You gave discipline, even when it was difficult
to do. Yet you never abandoned me.
Jim Gillum, no words could tell how you helped me
with friendship and guidance. When I needed the strong

truth and honesty you didn’t hesitate to tell me the truth.
You helped me look at myself and see some of the things
that I had been afraid to face.
To my brother, Curt and his wife Bunny. How could I
ever completely thank you for all that you have done for
me. In one of the hardest times of my life you came up be-
side me and lived out the love of God. You have been both
pastor and brother, two very hard positions to fill. But
through God you were able to be firm with me and yet love
me back to where I needed to be. Thank you.
My present church family, I could not express how
you have opened your arms to me and my family. I will be
eternally grateful.
And last but not least, I want to thank my son Na-
than. You have supported me in the hard times and en-
couraged me through the dark times. You are my light in
the storm, son. I love you so much. You are a gift from
God.

A MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART
A SONG FOR MY PASTOR
Written and composed
by R. James Simmons
D
1} Let me tell you about a man I met
G
a few years ago
D
Not a man of wealth and fame
G
But a man that you all know
Em
He opened up the Word of God
Asus A
And helped me to see
Em
He gave to me a brothers love
Asus A
And showed me what it means
(Chorus)
D G A
To be a man after God’s own heart
D G A
Offered up completely, not just in part
G A
Loving the ones Christ came to save
G A
Giving himself as Jesus gave
Em
A man saved by grace
A D
After God’s own heart
42
D
2} I’ve watched him weep at the altar
G
For his wayward child
D
A broken humble servant
G
And not to proud to cry
Em
He opened up his broken heart
A
And showed himself to men
Em
Then stood in faith and placed it
Asus A
On the throne again
(Bridge)
C
So we take this day,
G
A moment of time,
D
To gather these words of love
C
To thank you our friend
G
For sharing your life
D A
And opening the Word to us
91
(Chorus)
A D G A
To be like You in all my ways
D G A
in my words, in what I say
D G A
to be like You in all my ways
Em G A
Oh Lord that's all I ask
Em G A
Oh Lord that's all I ask

D G A
in my words, in what I say
D G A
to be like You in all my ways
Em G A
Oh Lord that's all I ask
Em G A
Oh Lord that's all I ask
D
I've seen the frailty of this flesh
G
and the foolishness of humanness
D
I've heard the hollow words of man
Em G A
and I know that no-one can do what God can
D
so I stand here at Your feet
G
broken bruised and incomplete
D
and I call upon Your name
Em A
saying Lord make a change
43
(Chorus)
D G A
To be a man after God’s own heart
D G A
Offered up completely, not just in part
G A
Loving the ones Christ came to save
