Note: You can alter the size of the scarf by
adding or subtracting the needed stitches on
the beginning chain to get the desired
length, and if you need it wider, simply add
more rows until you have the desired width.
CH 165
Row 1: Beginning in 4
th
CH from hook, DC
in each ST across. 161 STS
Row 2: Turn, CH 3 (counts as first DC). In
next ST, DC in back loop only, DC in every
back loop only stitch across. 161 STS
Note: If you have a problem with keeping
your rows even (as in, you lose a stitch
easily) keep track by counting your stitches
as you go. Every row should have 161 STS.
By counting now, you save the time of
unraveling your work later.
Row 3-16: Repeat Row 2. At the end of
Row 16, fasten off and weave in ends.
Making Hood
Fold scarf in half lengthwise. On the
beginning CH side of scarf, join your yarn at
top of folded edge with SL ST. Join the two
halves together using a SC stitch by joining
the two layers through each ST of the
foundation chain.
The steps to complete a SC stitch join:
With a loop on your hook, insert hook
through both layers you need to join, YO,
pull up through work (now two loops on
hook), YO, pull loop through two loops
already on hook, Tighten.
Note: This is the only time when you want
to tighten your stitches after you make each
one. It will give you a tighter seam.
Join the top 8 inches of scarf, then fasten off
and weave in ends. Turn scarf right side out
and enjoy!
Abbreviations Used:
CH: chain; DC: double crochet; ST(S):

crochet; YO: yarn over
