Introduction
The following documentation describes the installation and removal of the PCI modem plug-in
card (Europe and USA) for the KR C2 edition2005 controller.
1.1
Use
Providing the NSM remote control function
The PCI modem may be installed on the following motherboards only:
•
Soyo 7VBA (slot 3);
•
FSC D1688 (slot 6).
The KUKA counting direction for the PCI slots is the opposite of the counting direction on the
motherboard.
The slot specifications are based on the KUKA counting direction.
The PCI modem is authorized for use with the Windows XP operating system only.
In addition to the modem connection (Figure 1 [1]), the USA variant of the PCI modem has a
second connection (Figure 1 [2]) for operating a telephone.
Use of the telephone connection is not permissible.

Failure to observe these safety instructions could result in injury or a fatal accident and/or
damage to the robot system or other property!

All pertinent safety regulations as well as the booklet [Safety and Installation Instructions] are
to be observed when working on the system.
•
The KUKA safety chapter [KR C Safety, General] is supplied with the robot system and must
be read and understood before commencing work.
•
The safety instructions in the „KR C2 edition2005“ Operating Handbook must be observed.
2.2
Liability
Connection and use of the PCI modem card must be carried out in compliance with this
documentation.
2.3
Designated use
Using this product for any purpose other than or additional to that described in Section 1.1 is
considered contrary to its designated use. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any damage
resulting from such use.
The risk lies entirely with the user.
No liability can be accepted if these directions are disregarded.

The robot system must be switched off before exchange, adjustment, maintenance and
repair in accordance with the regulations contained in these operating instructions, i.e. the
main switch on the KR C2 edition2005 control cabinet must be turned to „OFF“ and
secured with a padlock to prevent it from inadvertently being switched on again.
N o t e !
The ESD directives (ESD: electrostatic sensitive devices) must be observed at all times when
handling modules for use in the KR C2 edition2005 (see „Safety, General“, Section 7, ESD
directives).

3.1
Installation
1.
Select the Force cold start option before switching off the KR C2 control.
2.
Open the cabinet door of the KR C2 edition2005 control cabinet and the PC chassis door.
3.
Check the PCI modem card for mechanical damage.
4.
Depending on the motherboard used, plug the PCI modem card into PCI slot 3 or 6.
When plugging the card in, hold the front plate of the card with one hand (Figure 2 [1]) and
the opposite edge of the card with the other hand and push the card into the slot, holding it
straight.
5.
Connect the cable (strain relieved) to the modem and fasten the modem cable, e.g. with cable
straps, to the cable harness that leads to the PC.
For modem connection of the Europe variant, see Figure 2 [2].
For modem connection of the USA variant, see Figure 2 [3].
6.
Close and lock the PC chassis door and the cabinet door of the KR C2 edition2005 control
cabinet.

Only install the driver software for the PCI modem if:
- the Windows XP operating system has been started and
- the GUI has not yet been started.
7.
Switch the KR C2 edition2005 control cabinet on. Prevent the KR C2 controller software
(Cross3) from loading by pressing the Shift + Ctrl keys simultaneously.
8.
Insert the CD-ROM with the driver software into the CD-ROM drive and follow the instructions
on the screen. The modem drivers are installed automatically.
9.
Once the installation of the driver software has been completed successfully, start the KR C2
controller software (Cross3).
3.2
Removal
N o t e !
Only uninstall the driver software for the PCI modem if:
- the Windows XP operating system has been started and
- the GUI has not yet been started.
Do not uninstall the driver software in the Device Manager.
1.
Select Start > Settings > Control Panel from the Windows task bar and then click on
Software.
2.
Select the entry „U.S. Robotics PCI Modem“ and then the Add/Remove Programs button.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
3.
Shut down the KR C2 controller.
4.
Remove the PCI modem card from the PC. To do this, reverse the steps described in the
installation procedure (see Section 3.1).
