The Ideals
The Ideals of Camp Strawderman are
to make girls so happy
they will share their happiness with others.
To make friendships which shall last through life.
To develop strong, healthy bodies
through regular exercise, good food,
and rest in the pure mountain air.
To create a love for God s out-of- doors,
and a reverence for his handiwork.
To bring out the hidden possibilities which lie
within each girl and to help her find herself.
Revised August 17, 2003
Camp Strawderman Spirit
We represent the Ideals of Camp Strawderman.
Ideals are necessary in any kind of life,
For each of us needs a goal
toward which she can strive.
Spirit of Strawderman Friendship (Frank Dempster Sherman) SCS s
We come into the Strawderman Circle It is my joy in life to find Tell me why the stars do shine;
The circle Of Reverence and Friendship At every turning of the road tell me why there s a lonesome pine
The Circle of Happiness and Health The strong arms of a comrade kind Tell me why the sky s so blue
Let what we desire of the universe penetrate us To help me onward with my load. Tell me SCS s why we all love you.
Let loving Kindness and Unselfishness, And since I have no gold to give, Because God made the stars to shine
Pass though us And love alone must make amends, Because God made the lonesome pine
And Truth be the law of our mouth My only prayer is, while I live Because God made the sky so blue
Here is enkindled the fire God make me worthy of my friends. God made SCS s, that s why we love you
which stands for the Spirit of Strawderman Pages
Of logs it is made and from its embers Gratitude Pages we sing to you
shall pass to us Ideals, which shall follow us I thank Thee just for life, We found you staunch and true
through the adventure we call life. The chance to live, Let your shield be your guide
To be alive! So great Thy gift To help you do what s right at Strawderman.
To this fire I bring the light of: If Thou dost nothing give
Besides, it is enough Spirit of Strawderman
Self-Reliance To breathe the air As we light our candles we share our dreams
Camp Strawderman, To walk the mountain sod with each new flame new vision gleams
Because of your firm faith, To feel the play of mighty winds And in the purifying light
I shall keep the track. To look Thee in the face Our Spirits reach a fairer height
Whose sharp set stones, And call Thee God. And in our hearts we breath a prayer
My strength may almost spend. God, Bless our Campers everywhere.
I could not meet your eyes, Reverence
If I turned back, God Of the Hills Follow the Gleam
So on my way I ll wend. Grant me Thy strength to go back To the Knights in the days of ole,
Into the cities without faltering: Keeping watch o er the mountain height
Because of your strong love, Strength to do my daily task Cam a vision of Holy Graile,
I ll hold my path. Without tiring, and with entrhusiasm. And a voice through the waiting night
When battered, torn, Strength to help my neighbor,
And bleeding in the fight, Who has no hills to remember. Follow, follow, follow the gleam.
How could I meet your true eyes, Banners unfurled, O er all the world.
Blazing wrath, God of the Stream Follow, follow, follow the gleam,
If I keep not right? Grant me Thy peace and restfulness; Of the Chalice that is the Grail.
Restfulness to carry to the tired
Happiness One whom I shall meet every day. And we who would serve the King,
Glad that I live am I Content to do small things with And loyally him obey.
That the sky is blue With a freedom from littleness, In the consecrate silence know,
Glad for the country lanes Self-control for the unexpected emergency That the challenge still holds today
And the fall of dew And patience for the wearisome task.
After the sun, the rain Follow, follow, follow the gleam.
After the rain, the sun God of the Stars Standards of worth, o er all the earth
this is the way of life May I take back the gift Follow, follow, follow the gleam,
Till the work be done. Of friendship and love for all, Of the light that shall bring the dawn.
All that we need to do Fill me with a great tenderness
Be we low or high For the needy person at every turning, I Would Be True
Is to see that we grow Grant that in all my perplextities and I would be true,
Nearer the sky. Everyday decisions I may keep an open mind. for there are those who trust me;
I would be pure,
Health God of the Trails for there are those who care.;=
As I grow I crave for myself With the pure winds from the northlands, I would be strong,
The strength of the oak tree, Drive away my pettiness. For there is much to suffer;
The grace and slenderness With the harsher winds of the winter I would be brave,
Of the willow tree, Drive away my selfishness and hypocrisy. For there is much to dare.
And may I be straight, Filll me with the breadth and depth I would be brave,
Like the pine, And height of Thy wilderness. For there is much to dare.
Cleaness of hands May I live out the truth I would be friend,
And clearness of brain I crave Which Thou hast taught me To all the foe, the friendless;
And purity of spirit, By every thought and word and deed. I would be giving, and forget the gift;
As the mountain air is pure. I would be humble,
May all these gifts be mine. For I know my weakness;
I would look up, and laugh & love & live.
I would look up, and laugh & love & live.
EVERY DAY SONGS The Golden Day Is Dying Tell Me Why
(Evening Colors) (Sunday Goodnight Circle)
America (morning colors) The golden day is dying Tell me why the stars do shine?
My country tis of thee, Beyond the purple hill Tell me why there s a lonesome pine?
Sweet land of liberty, The golden day is dying Tell me why the sky s so blue?
Of thee I sing. Beyond the purple hill Tell me Camp Strawderman,
Land of the Pilgrims pride, Why we all love you?
Land where our Fathers s died, The Lark that sang at morning
From every mountainside, In dusky wood is still Because God made the stars to shine.
Let freedom ring! The Lark that sang at morning Because God made the lonesome pine.
In dusky wood is still Because God made the sky so blue.
Grace (Morning) God made Camp Strawderman,
For health and strength And soon above the meadow That s why we love you.
And daily bread, The silvery moon will swing
We praise thy name, oh Lord! And soon above the meadow Good Night Circle
Amen The silvery moon will swing (Every evening, goodnight circle)
As we form our good night circle
Grace (Sunday Breakfast) And where the wood is darkest To sing our fond good night,
God has created a new day, The Whip-poor-will will sing. And we all join hands and promise
Silver and green and gold. And where the wood is darkest To ever live aright,
Live that the sunset may find us, The Whip-poor-will will sing.
Worthy as gifts to hold. And with lanterns softly glowing,
Amen Grace (Evening) We journey toward East & West,
Evening (Morning) is Here And the bugle softly blowing
Grace (General) Evening is here, Sends each camper to her rest.
Hark to the Chimes The board is spread. (then sing taps...)

Come bow our heads, Who gives us bread. Taps

Sunday Song (Greensleeves) Oh No! When I was a camper at Strawderman,
Beneath the skies of Strawderman, It s 7:25 and I m not nearly dressed! I belonged to the cabin Wit s End.
There stands our cabin Wit s End. And it s Wit s End s time for Colors line, Ring-ting.
Among green trees and skies so fair, and my Sunday whites There with my friends and my counselors,
We dwell in joy and friendship there. Aren t even pressed! Together we always would sing,
Ring-ting!
Wit s End to you we re true, Oh No!
We ll always hope to return to you. I think I left a fork in the soapy water pan, Ring-ting-ting! Ring-ting-ting!
Happiness is yours to give, And my counselor said, she d have my head, Wit s End! Wit s End! Wit s End!
Wit s End spirit will always live! If I lost Schedule for us once again. Ring-ting-ting! Ring-ting-ting! Wit s End!
We belong to the cabin, Wit s End!
Shout for Wits End But that s only part of the plan, Ring-ting!

And do our very best Even if we re just a little late. If I had the wings of a dove, oh happy day!
For without the spirit in this cabin If I had the wings of a dove, bub bub bub!
The camp would be lost....the camp would be lost. But that s only part of the fun I would stay, at Wit s End,
That our cabin will show everyone Sta-a-a-a-ay all the day,
And so my friends this ends this ditty, And so we say, And be the very best!

O-lee-o-lay dee o-lee-o-lay
(Button) (Home, Home on the Range)
Firebug (Camping) Campers hearken to our call
Oh, give me a home, where the snattlerakes roam!
Tall timbers calling and the echoes ring. O-lee-o-lay dee o-lee-lay
And the deer and the nannygoats play.
All nature sing a song along the timber trail.
Where seldom is heard an encouraging word.
Blue shadows falling, on the canyon pale, O-lee, O-lay-dee, O-lee-o-lay-dee, O-lee-o-lay
And the ring stays muddy all day.
All nature sing a song along the timber trail O-lee, O-lay-dee, O-lee-o-lay-dee, O-lee-lay
Don t foam on the mane!
You re driving your counselor insane.
And high above the lone song of the trees, Campers hearken to our song
Omegas we are, in the dust we ll go far
Wends and bends its way upon the breeze O-lee-o-lay dee o-lee-o-lay
And the flies will soon kill us, I m shar!
Tall timbers calling, and the echoes ring Singing as we hike along
All nature sing a song along the timber trail... O-lee-o-lay dee o-lee-lay

That made us KAPPA women,
Most of us are fools. You may ride and you may swim
And we re all for you!
No one can explain the human race, But we create with pep and vim
KAPPA club, blub blub blub.
But the Indian, that s a different case... The Aces club of Strawderman

Campfire Song
All night, all day,
Baby s Boat (Tune: Drink to me only with Thine Eyes)
Angels watchin over me, my Lord.
Baby s boat s a silver moon sailing in the sky As the bright flames ascend to heaven
All night, all day.
Floating on the sea of sleep while the clouds roll by O God of love and truth
Angels watchin over me.
Sail Baby sail out across the sea We would in thought with Thee commune
Only don t forget to sail back again to me In love and joy and youth
Now I lay me down to sleep.
Baby s fishing for a dream, fishing near and far The hills resound with our glad songs
Angels watchin over me, my Lord.
Her line is but a silver beam, her bait a silver star And echo back to thee.
Pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Sail Baby sail out across the sea Our thanks receive for work and health
Angels watchin over me.
Only don t forget to sail back again to me And love and loyalty.
If I die before I wake.

There was a fair maid dwellin Chairs to mend, old chairs to mend.
Angels watchin over me.
Made every youth cry Well-a-day Any old rags, any old rags.
Her name was Barb ra Allen
Allouetta (french song)
All in the merry month of May
When green buds they were swellin
A Poor and Carefree Stranger
A young man on his death bed lay
A poor and carefree stranger
For love of Barb ra Allen
Was weary from her wandering,
He sent his man unto her then
Weary, weary from her wand ring.
To the town where she was dwellin
You must come to my master, dear,
She had a flute and lost it
If your name be Barb ra Allen.
T was lost from his hiking sack, sack
So slowly, slowly she came up,
T was lost from his hiking sack.
And slowly she came nigh him,
And all she said when there she came,
Don t worry I ve discovered,
Young man, I think you re dying!
What gives you such pleasure
As she was walking O er the fields,
Sweet tra la la Sweet tra la la
She heard the death bell knellin
What gives you such pleasure sweet.
And every stroke did seem to say
An Austrian went Yodeling
Unworthy, Barb ra Allen.
An Austrian went yodeling on a mountain top high
When he was dead, and laid in grave
When along came an avalanche interrupting his cry

Happy is the day when an airman gets his pay
Kookabora Sits In the Old Gum Tree (2 Lonesome Valley Pioneer s Song (revised 1992 version)
parts) Jesus walked this lonesome valley. How we wish we could stay here all winter;
Kookabora sits in the old gum tree, He had to walk it by himself, We don t want to go back whence we came.
Merry, merry king to the bush is he. Oh, nobody else could walk it for him, Margie d sit by the fire-place and shiver,
Laugh Kookaburra, laugh Kookbora! He had to walk it by himself. Samboe d be covered with snow stead of rain.
Gay you life must be. Barb could break through the ice and go swimming,
We must walk this lonesome valley Judy could ski o er the ridge for the mail;
Kookabora sits in the old gum tree, We have to walk it by ourselves Chip would hitch up the sleigh to the horses,
Eating all the gumdrops he can see. Oh, nobody else can walk it for us, Jingle bells would ring out o er the dale.
Stop Kookbora, Stop Kookabora! We have to walk it by ourselves. We d use snow stead of clay in the art room;
Leave some there for me! Ha! Ha! There d be snow men all over the place.
You must walk this lonesome valley. And when Dee d call for her tennis players,
Kum Ba Yah You have to walk it by yourself. They d report to the courts on their skates.
Kum ba yah, my Lord. Kum ba yah. Oh nobody else can walk it for you. Socks and Washers would battle with snowballs,
Kum ba yah, my Lord. Kum ba yah. You have to walk it by yourself. At the horse trough we never could play,
Kum ba yah, my Lord. Kum ba yah. And with icicles hanging around him
Oh Lord Kum ba yah. Make New Friends (A round) Lester d serve frozen eggs every day.
Make new friends, but keep the old, Come the time for the old water pageant,
Night is coming, Lord. Kum ba yah. One is silver and the other gold. Annie wouldn t have to work very much;
Night is coming, Lord. Kum ba yah. There d be igloos to build and not windmills,
Night is coming, Lord. Kum ba yah. The Noble Duke of York Eskimos take the place of the Dutch.
Oh Lord Kum ba yah. The Noble Duke of York How we wish we could stay here all winter;
He had ten thousand men We don t want to go back whence we came.
3. Stars are twinkling, Lord. He marched them up the hill We d sit by the fire-place and shiver,
and marched them down again We d be covered with snow stead of rain.
4. Moon is shining, Lord.
Now when you re up, you re up Poor Old Slave
5. Children sleeping, Lord. And when you re down, you re down The poor old slave has gone to rest;
But when you re only halfway up, We know that he is free, free, free.
Laughing Song You re neither up nor down His bones they lie, disturb them not,

Puff the Magic Dragon Rhododendrons Ships
Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea. I want to wake up in the morning, When all the little ships come sailing home
And frolicked in the autumn mist, Where the rhododendrons grow, Across the sea,
In a land call Honnelly. Where the sun comes a-peepin , Their weary journey ended
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal, Puff. In the cabin where I m sleepin , Their way wended,
And brought him strings, and sealing wax, And the songbirds say, Hello. Home, where they would be.
And other fancy stuff. I want to wander thru the wildwood They sail across the bar.
(chorus) Where the fragrant breezes blow, Where no storms are,
O, Puff the magic dragon, And come drifting back to Strawderman, All dangers past.
Lived by the sea. Where the rhododendrons grow. And two by two together
And frolicked in the autumn mist, Come sailing home at last.
In a land called Honnelly. Rock-A-My-Soul

Tommy Tinker (A round) When I First Came to this Land White Coral Bells (A round)
Little Tommy Tinker When I first came to this land, I was not a wealthy White coral bells, upon a slender stalk,
Sat on a Clinker man Lillies of the valley deck my garden wall.
He began to cry So I got myself a shack, and I did what I could Oh how I wish that I might hear them ring!
Ma! Ma! And I named my shack, Break my back That will happen only
Poor little innocent guy! But the land was sweet and good, And I did what I When the fairies sing!
could.
To You Strawderman (tune: Liebestraum) Wind, Wind
To you, Strawderman, (Repeat and add one of the following verses each Wind, wind, heather gypsy, whistling in my tree,
We pledge our loyalty, time:) All the heart of me is tipsy at the sound of thee.
True always we will be. And I named my shack, Break my back Sweet with scent of clover, soft with breath of sea,
We love our camp And I named my cow, No milk now Wind, wind, wayward lover, whistling in my tree.
And raise our hearts in song, And I named my horse, favorite of course
Through all the ages long, And I named my dog, knot on a log Witchcraft
The happy friendships we have here And I named my wife, run for your life If there were witchcraft,
Each memory so dear And I named my son, my work is done I d make two wishes
Our praises bring to your traditions cling, A rambling road that beckons me to roam
Strawderman, to you we sing. (Last verse) And then I d wish for
He grew up and left the farm A blazing campfire
Toomba (A round) Then he came back with a wife on his arm To welcome me when I m returning home.
Toomba toomba toomba toomba, Now the house is full of kids, And I did what I could
Toomba toomba toomba toomba. And I named those kids, flip your lids Memories that linger, constant and true,
Toomba toomba toomba toomba, And I named my son, my work is done Bring back sweet visions,
Toomba toomba toomba toomba. And I named my wife, run for your life Campers dear of you.
And I named my dog, knot on a log
Tra la la, la la la la la, la la la la la, la And I named my horse, favorite of course But in this wide world
Tra la la, la la la la la, la la la la la, la And I named my cow, No milk now There is no witch craft,
And I named my shack, Break my back And golden wishes do not grow on trees,
Tra la la la, la la la la la, la la la la la, la But the Land was sweet and good, and I did what I Our fondest day-dreams
Tra la la la, la la la la la, la la la la la, la could. Are but the magic
To bring us back those golden memories.

Silly lad, the answer true:
A stone can grow without the dew.
Love can burn for years and years.
A heart can cry and shed no tears.

Hallelujah, I m a bum! On the cruiser Alabama Old Mrs. Leary lit the lantern in the shed
Hallelujah, bum again. he was there at that pia-na And when the Cow kicked it over
Hallelujah, give a handout, Like a fish down in the sea! She winked her eye and said
To revive us again. When he rattled off some harmony! There ll be a hot time in the old town tonight
Every night out on the ocean
Oh why don t you work, he would get that raggy notion When you hear dem bells go ding-a-ling,
Like other men do? Start that syncopated motion lovingly All join in and sweetly you must sing
How the hell can I work, No one could sleep and when the verse am through,
When there s no work to do? Way out there on the deep In the chorus all join in
(chorus) When Billy cut loose out at sea. There ll be a hot time in the old town tonight...
Now, I like my boss, Each fish and worm I Don t Want to Play in Your Yard
And my boss loves me, begins to twist and squirm, Once there lived side by side,
And that is the reason The ship starts in to dip Two little maids,

(chorus) Just see the smoke so black Hair down in braids,....

I m just out of jail, Little sun bonnets tied
Without any money, Now here and there, On each pretty head.
Without any bail. You ll see a stool or chair
(chorus) A slippin round the cabin When school was over
shoutin I don t care Secrets they d tell,

Good bye My Lady Love I played around the one night trape Next day two little maids each other miss,
So, I m going away around a great big nation. Quarrels are soon made up,
Because my heart has gone astray Wild old men who give you jewels and sables Sealed with a kiss,...
And you promised me only live in Aesops Fables. Then hand in hand again,
that someday you ll come back to me Life upon the wicked stage is nothing for a girl. Happy they go,
(Girls) Friends all thro life to be,
Good bye my Lady love Though we ve listened to you moan an grieve They love each other so.
Farewell my turtle dove You must pardon us if we do not believe you
You are the Idol and Darling of my heart There is no doubt, you re crazy about your awful
But someday you will come back to me stage
And love me tenderly (Ellie)
So Good bye my lady love, Goodbye. I admit it s fun to smear my face with paint.
Causing everyone to think I m what I ain t
And I like to play a demi monde role with soul!
Ask the hero does he like the way I lure
when I play a hussie or paramour?
Yet once the curtain s down my life is pure...
and how I dread it!
(Girls)
Life upon the wicked stage ain t ever what a girl
supposes
Stage door Johnnies aren t raging over you with

Bill Frankie and Johnny Medley Songs
I used to dream that I would discover Frankie and Johnny were lovers. 1. While strolling through the park one day...
The perfect lover, someday. Oh, Lawdy, how they could love! In the merry, merry month of May...
I knew I d recognize him. They swore to be true to each other. I was taken by surprise, by a pair of roguish eyes...
If ever he came round my way. Just as true as the stars above. In a moment my poor heart was stole away.
I always used to fancy then,
He d be one of the god-like kind of men. (chorus) 2. By the light, of the silvery moon, I want to
With a giant brain, and noble head. He was her man, but he has done her wrong. spoon,
Like the heroes bold in the books I read; To my honey I ll croon love s tune...
But along came Bill, who s not that type at all, Johnny said I ve got to go now. Honey moon, keep a shinin in June...
You d meet him on the street and never notice him! I won t be very long. Your silvery beams will bring love s dreams,
His form and face, His manly grace, So don t you wait up for me my honey. We ll be cuddlin soon, by the silvery moon!
Is not the kind that you would find in a statue. Nor worry while I m gone.
And I can t explain, It s surely not his brain. (Chorus) 3. Casey would waltz with the strawberry blonde
That makes me thrill, I love him! And the band played on...
Because ... he s wonderful! Ain t gonna tell you no story He d glide cross the floor with the girl he adored
Because he s just my Bill! Ain t gonna tell you no lie, And the band played on...
But your Johnny went by an hour ago But his brain was so loaded it nearly exploded
He can t play golf, or tennis or polo, With a girl nemed Nellie Blye. The poor girl would shake with alarm
Or sing a solo, or row. (Chorus) He d ne er leave the girl with the strawberry curl
He is not half as handsome And the band played on...
as dozens of men that I know. Frankie went home in a hurry.
He isn t tall and straight and slim, She didn t go there for fun. 4. Daisy, Daisy give me your answer do;
And he dresses far worse than Ted or Jim. She hurried home to get I m half crazy all for the love of you...
Oh, I can t explain why he should be just the one, A hold of her Johnny s gun. It won t be a stylish marriage
One man in the world for me; He s just my Bill, (Chorus) I can t afford a carriage...
An ordinary boy, He hasn t got a thing But you ll look sweet upon the seat
that I can brag about; Johnny saw Frankie a comin . Of a bicycle built for two.
And yet to be upon his knee, so comfy & roomy Out the back door he did scoot.
seems natural to me Oh, I can t explain, But Frankie took aim with her pistol, 5. In the shade of the old apple tree,
It s surely not his brain, that makes me thrill And the gun went root a toot toot. Where the love in your eyes I could see...
I love him - Because he s....I don t know, (Chorus) And the voice that I heard...
Because he s just my Bill! Like the song of a bird,
Sherriff arrested poor Frankie Seemed to whisper sweet music to me,
Cant Help Loving dat Man (Queenie) Took her to jail the same day. I could hear the dull buzz of the beeezzzzz
Fish gotta swim and birds gotta fly He locked her up in a dungeon cell In the blossoms as you said to me....
I ve gotta love one man til I die And threw the key away. With a heart that is true, I ll be waiting for you,
Can t help lovin dat man of mine. (Chorus) In the shade of the old apple tree.
Oh, Listen Sister, I love my mister man 6. Put on your old grey bonnet
And I can t tell you why With the blue ribbon on it
There ain t no reason And we ll hitch old Dobbin to the shay
Why I should love that man And through the fields of clover
It must be somethin that de angels done plan We will ride up to Dover
On our golden wedding day!
Fish gotta swim and birds gotta fly
I ve gotta love one man til I die
Can t help lovin dat man of mine.
Tell me he s lazy tell me he s lazy
Tell me I m crazy, maybe I know
Can t help lovin that man
When he goes away, dat s a rainy day
Then when he comes back the day is fine
The sun will shine
He can come home as late as can be
Home without him ain t no home to me
Can t help lovin dat man of mine
There life is contented though simple and plain
Melodrama Ol Man River (Reprise)
And no more will she have to say:
She was a child of the valley, (Chorus)
an innocent maiden was she. Ol Man river, dat ol man river
No! No! A thousand times No!
He was a desperate Desmond, He must know something, but don t say nothin ,
You cannot buy my caress!
Who owned all the town property. He just keeps rollin , he keeps on rollin along.
No! No! A thousand times No!
He would pursue her through hill and through dell
I d rather die than say yes!
But she was wise to his game. He don t plant taters, he don t plant cotton
Each time he threatened: You ll WED me or And dem dat plants em is soon forgotten,
ELSE! But ol man river he just keeps rollin along.
These were the words she d exclaim:
(Joe)
(Chorus) New things come, an ol things go
No! No! A thousand times No! But all things look the same to Joe
You cannot buy my caress! Wars go on an some folks die,
No! No! A thousand times No! De res forget de reason why.
I d rather die than say yes! (2-3-4)
I gits weary and sick of tryin ,
Ah, but this poisonous villian, he would not leave I m tired of livin and scared of dyin
her alone
Said: Either JOIN me in WEDLOCK, or I ll (Chorus)
THROW you right OUT of your HOME! But ol man river, he just keeps rollin along!
She knew her people so feeble and old,
Needed a roof o er their heads.
Winter would soon bring the snow and the cold,
Yet she defied him and said:
After The Ball Is Over
No! No! A thousand times No!
A little maiden climbed an old man s knee,
You cannot buy my caress! There Goes the Showboat
Begged for a story,
No! No! A thousand times No! There goes the Showboat, we mean the Showboat
Do Uncle please, Why are you single, why live
I d rather die than say yes! (2-3-4) Where fun and frolic reign supreme
alone?
We re glad we met ya . We won t forget ya .
Have you no babies, have you no home?
That night he crept up to her window, Next year we ll greet you again!
And oh, how that villian could creep If you re from Alabama, Tennesee or Caroline,
I had a sweetheart years ago,
He stole her right out of her boudoir, Or anywhere below the Mason Dixon Line
Where he is now, pet, you will soon know.
And kidnapped her while fast asleep. You ll love the Showboat, We mean the Showboat,
List to the story, I ll tell it all,
He tied the gal to the old railroad track, cause we all love it so!
I b lieved her faithless, after the ball.
The milktrain was rushing down hill
She cried to him: Though my FUTURE looks
(chorus)
BLEAK
After the ball is over
You BUZZARD my ANSWER is STILL:
After the break of morn,
After the dancers leaving,
No! No! A thousand times No!
After the stars are gone;
You cannot buy my caress!
No! No! A thousand times No!
Many a heart is aching,
I d rather die than say yes! (2-3-4)
If you could read them all;
Many the hopes that have vanished,
Now she loved the young village blacksmith,
After the ball.
A muscular he man was he
He heard his love was in danger,
2.Bright lights were flashing in the grand ballroom,
And right to the rescue flew he,
Softly the music playing sweet tunes,
He grabbed his darling in the nick of time
There came my sweetheart, my love my own,
And Yelled: This is MY future WIFE!
I wish some water, leave me alone!
The villian sneered: Blacksmith, this MAIDEN is
MINE
When I returned dear, there stood a man,
The hero cried: Not on your LIFE!
Kissing my sweetheart as lovers can.
Down feel the glass, pet, broken that s all,
No! No! A thousand times No!
Just as my heart was, after the ball.
You cannot buy her caress!
No! No! A thousand times No!
3. Long years have passed child I ve never wed,
She d rather die than say yes! (2-3-4)
True to my lost love, though she is dead.
She tried to tell me, tried to explain,
Now this is the end of our story
I would not listen, pleadings were vain.
Her honor was left without stain
The Hero took her to the Altar
One day a letter came, from that man.
The villian was foiled once again
He was her brother the letter ran.
The mortgage was paid and the handsome young
That s why I m lonely, no home at all.
swain
I broke her heart pet, after the ball.
Moved in with her folks right away
