DREDD FOOLE
DAZE ON THE MOUNTS
Smooch... Yes, the Foole has finally come out and ended a near decade of silence and Daze on the Mounts, a spi-
raling three-dimensional crest of the so-called avant-folk expression, is the celebratory homecoming. Originally
issued as a limited 2004 CDR, this reissue presents the famed colossal side to the masses. In collaboration with
Matt Valentine and Erika Elder (MV&EE/Bummer Road and Tower Recordings), two of modern-times’
purest interstellar travelers, the Foole bounds between Tim Buckley-esque bellow and a hyper-extended take
on the song form (a dewy mash of Ra-space and Vermont-lore) alongside environmental treatments (harmoni-
ca, synthesizer, percussion) and his own acoustic guitar work to fully transcend known limitations. Reworkings
of Arthur Lee and J. Masics standards bring an all new lickety-satisfaction to the original verse.
During a chunk of the 1980s the Foole, aka Dan Ireton, guided a visceral garage-cum-avant vision with The
Din (a Boston-based backing band lined with members of Mission of Burma and Volcano Sons) and released
two full-lengths before stripping down and recording the alarmingly decisive (and divisively received) folk
heavy In the Quest of Tense solo full-length for Forced Exposure in 1995. Since, the Foole has become a
beacon for modern-day folk explorers Six Organs of Admittance and Charalambides.
Since the original Daze was issued, via Valentine's Child of the Microtones imprint, we’ve seen a fine stream
of releases begin to come forth for Ecstatic Yod and COM, a contribution to the watershed By The Fruits You
Shall Know the Roots (Time-Lag) compilation and performances with the like of Jack Rose, Christina Carter,
Thurston Moore, Chris Corsano, and many others.
Ireton was born in Camden, MA, 1950, and now resides in Brattleboro, VT.
“... a bona fide American Master.” – Stewart Voegtlin, Dusted
“... Dan Ireton remains one of the most liberated and liberating musicians on the planet.” - Volcanic Tongue
“He's the bard of the barred and scarred, the ones who pay the toll and the troll. The Unrepentant, Baby! “
– Chuck Eddy, Village Voice
“[Daze on the Mounts is] delivered like tranced folk transmissions from deep inner space... Mysterious shadows shift
and take on new shapes. Headily stunned and slightly lacking in equilibrium, this sways and swoops like a long
rope swing strung over a river.” - George Parsons, Dream Magazine
