Introduction
This book has been compiled as a collection of the most needed and most basic recipes
usedforachildwithseverepeanut/eggallergies.(crustaceanallergyappliestoRileyalso,
butwearegoingwiththenutandeggfreerecipesforthisbook).
Nononsenseandnofussrecipesthatareeasytomakeandcanbeafunactivityforthe
childrentoo.
Oneofthemostdangerousallergies,isthatofpeanuts.Ananaphylacticshockisalife
threatening collapse of the respiratory and circulatory systems. An allergy is not an
intolerance.
Peanutsandtreenutsarequiteoftenhiddenelementsofamultitudeofprocessedfoods,
making the act of label reading a “must do” – it will become a ritual. Sooner than you
think,youwillknowwhattopurchaseandwhattoeliminatefromyourshoppinglist.In
actual fact, it is a healthy lifestyle because a lot of processed foods are eliminated
immediately from the diet and a large percentage of foods are home made or fresh
produce.Lotsofsalads,fruitsandvegetables.Greatfortheentirefamily.
Peanuts are obviously present in: peanuts and peanut oil, therefore Chinese and Thai
foods are not advised. Most baked goods from local bakeries, & some food flavourings.
Pre-packed popular lollies and sweets along with the majority of muesli bars. Always
checkwitharestaurantastotheoilsusedfortheirmenusanddon’tthinkthatthesteamed
ricewillsuffice,becausethereisalwaystheriskofcrosscontamination.Welcometoyour

WhenmydaughterwasinformedofhersonRiley’sallergies,itwasashockandtooka
little getting used to. Immediately one of the main objectives was to find and get
accustomedtoproductsthatweretobecomepantrystaples.Youwillfindsomeofthese
mentioned throughout the book, and my thanks go to the companies for their wonderful
products. Now my family is quite used to label reading, and it’s amazing what can be
found. I have been known to give a yahoo now and then when I come across a “new
product” not containing nuts. There’s nuts – or – traces of – or – may contain – or –
packagedwith–it’sjustcrazy.

manytimesmydaughterhashadtodiscardorgiveawaypurchasesmadeinerrorbecause
ofmisleadinglabelling.That’swhythefirstcoupleofshoppingexpeditionsareimportant.
Muchbetterifyouhavesomeonewithyou–no,notyourchild/children,thatcomeslater.
Childrenneedtoknowwheretheirfoodcomesfrom,andhowit’sprepared.Theyalso
willgetusedtothepackaging,probablybeforetheyareabletoreadthelabels.
Ultimately,donotlietothemorpretendtheirfoodisthesameastheirfriend’sasthis
willleadtohugeconfusionandit’squitedangerous.Theyhavetoknowthattheycanhave
cakeandbiscuitsandchipsetc.butsometimesit’sjustnotnecessarilywhattheirfriends
have.
The day you set aside for research shopping, source products from where you usually
shop,butbepreparedtomakeavisittospecialtyshopsforsomeitemswhichwillbecome
importantinyourpantry.Yourlocaldelicatessensaregreatforthis.
The way things are today with all the packaged products, you could possibly find
yourself encouraging others to a healthier snacking scenario. Store bought munchies are
