This tutorial shows how to wrap a briolette or
flat pear with a coiled bail. The coiling gives the
briolette a more delicate and intricate look.
Materials:
1 briolette or flat pear (the one shown in this
example measures ½ by ¾ .
3 24 ga soft or half hard wire
20 28 or 26 ga soft wire
Step 1: Measure the briolette
Measure the distance between the tip of the
briolette and the drilled hole. In this case, it
measures 6mm long.
Step 2: Coil the 24 ga wire
Cut a 3 long piece of 24 ga wire and a 4 ½
long piece of 28 ga. Coil the 28 ga around the
24 ga, until the coiling measures 6mm (or the
distance between the tip and the hole of your
briolette).

Step 3: Bend the 24 ga wire to form the
shank
Trim both ends of the 28 ga wire very closely.
Using the chain nose or flat nose pliers, bend
the 24 ga wire just 3mm from one end at a 90
degree angle. This forms the shank of the
briolette wrap.
Step 4: Bend the 24 wire again
Using the chain nose or flat nose pliers, bend
the wire again at a 90 degree angle as close as
possible to the coiling and slip the 24 ga wire
through the briolette.
Step 5: Coil the other side
Using the rest of the 28 ga wire (about 15 ½ ),
coil the other side of the briolette, exactly 6mm
(or the same distance from the hole to the tip as
used before).

Step 6: Fold the 24 ga wire
Move the briolette towards the first coiling as
close as possible. Using your fingers, fold the
second coiling upward.
Step 7: Bend the 24 ga wire upward
Using the flat nose pliers, bend the 24 ga wire to
start forming the second portion of the shank.
Do not trim the long 28 ga wire yet.
Step 8: Bend the 24 ga wire again to form
the shank
Using the flat nose pliers again, bend the wire
90 degrees outward, exactly 3mm from the
coiling, mirroring the other side.

Step 9: Coil the 24 ga wire
Bring the thin 28 ga wire upward towards the
second bend, and start coiling the 28 ga around
the 24 ga wire. Coil for ¾ long, or as long as
you would like the loop to be.
Step 10: Form the loop
Using the round nose pliers, carefully form the
upper loop.
Step 11: Wrap the loop
Holding the two shanks together, wrap the
shank tightly using the 24 ga wire.

Step 12: Finish wrapping the shank
Finish wrapping the entire shank and trim the
wire very closely.
Step 13: Turn the loop 90 degrees
(optional)
If needed, turn the shank 90 degrees for better
positioning in the final jewelry piece.
