The dual clutch transmission with integrated electric motor for high-torque mild-hybrid powertrain
The hybrid variation 6HDT451 is based on the GETRAG
PowerShift® 6DCT451 and uses the integrated electric
motor to allow for additional reduction in CO2 emissions
by more than 10 % in the New European Driving Cycle
(NEDC).
The Mild-Hybrid 6HDT451 was developed for front trans-
verse installation in the middle class and upper middle
class segments and in sport utility vehicles (SUV). Total
torques of up to 450 Nm can be transferred with simul-
taneous combustion engine and electric motor opera-
tion.
The GETRAG PowerShift® transmission 6HDT451 can be
easily combined with all-wheel drive and guarantees
GETRAG PowerShift® 6DCT451
start/stop functionality without additional components
for the transmission.
The hybrid variation 6HDT451 has the same overall length as the basic dual clutch transmission 6HDT451. This
is achieved through the arrangement of the electric motor as a single unit that contains the dual clutch.
The integrated electric motor, functioning either as a motor or a generator, further increases the versatility of the
GETRAG PowerShift® transmission. The permanent magnet synchronous motors offer a high continuous torque
of 110 Nm that is practically available from a standstill position. The transmission 6HDT451 with internal rotor
cooled with transmission oil alternatively allows for longer transmission ratios with an unchanged number of
gears, further "downsizing" of the combustion engine and an increase in driving performance with an un-
changed, compact combustion engine. Furthermore, the transmission control, which is embedded in a mecha-
tronics module, is directly involved in the management of the electric motor and combustion engine. The trans-
mission control contains essential electric motor functionalities.
The transmission 6DHDT451 has six forward gears and one reverse gear. The even gears (2,4,6) and the odd
gears (1,3,5,R) are split on two separate transmission parts. There is also the option of using a seven-gear ver-
sion with a 2, 4, 6, R and 1, 3, 5, 7 distribution. The clutches and the shift forks are hydraulically controlled.
The transmission 6HDT451 is taught in with the electric motor at the transmission plant and programmed with
customer-specific software. Thus, it is guaranteed that the transmission is ready to be directly installed in the
vehicle plant.

GETRAG PowerShift® is GETRAG's product line for modern dual clutch transmissions. They combine the com-
fort of a conventional automatic transmission with the direct responding behaviour and the high degree of effi-
ciency of a manual transmission. All GETRAG PowerShift® transmissions work without torque interruption and
when compared to conventional automatic transmissions at a vehicle level achieve a 5  10 % reduction in fuel
consumption and CO2 emission - depending on the application, up to 15 %. The high flexiblity in the selection of
gear ratios in connection with further optimised transmission efficiency characteristics is an important basic
principle.
