Worksheet 9
(Suitable for use after Unit 9 of New English Parade Starter)
Circle the birthday objects.
Language aims
Party words: balloons, birthday cake, ice cream, drinks, fruit, sandwich, biscuit
Procedure
1 Ask (L1) if anyone in the class has had a birthday party recently. Ask what food they had, if they had any special
party decorations (e.g. balloons).
2 Distribute the worksheets and ask children to look at the pictures, eliciting vocabulary as necessary.
3 Ask which of the pictures are things that would be found at a party. Ask children to draw a circle around these things.
4 Check by asking pupils to give the names of the party things.
Key
Children should circle the balloons, the sandwich, the biscuits, the birthday cake, the ice cream, the fruit and the drinks.
Optional activity
Children can add pictures of things they had at their last birthday party not included here, for example a birthday present
or cards. Limit this to one or two items. Encourage them to tell the class about the things they have drawn.
