Semitendinosus (Medial Hamstrings)
Origin
Ischial tuberosity with the common tendon
of the biceps femoris long head
Insertion
Proximal part of medial surface of the
body of the tibia just medial to the tibial
tubercle (the tendon makes up a portion of
the pes anserine (distal attachment of the
sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus))
The semitendinosus covers a portion of
the semimembranosus and attaches
lateral to the semimembranosus tendon
Actions
At the knee, flexion and medial (internal)
rotation; at the hip, extension and assists
in medial rotation
Nerve
Sciatic nerve (tibial branch)
