Introduction
Thank you for your trust and the investment into YOUR success, because ultimately, let s
face it, you invested into this guide because you want to make a change in your life (or just
make some good cash, which is also understandable)
What you are going to learn throughout this short guide is basically what has worked for
me and many other bestselling authors when it comes to publishing and selling books
successfully. It will depend on the amount of time and your personal dedication to your
success if you will make this work for you or not.
While this guide is more geared towards non-fiction authors, the methods of researching,
writing and marketing can also be applied to fiction books.
Let me tell you something though. If you stick with the proven methods of researching,
writing and marketing that you will learn and always keep an open mind for new methods
and systems that you will develop over time, then there is nothing that can stop you from
succeeding.
You are the only one who can make something happen. You are the key to your personal
success. Don t forget that, ever. No matter how good the method or system, it is always
up to the student to follow through and apply the teachings to make things happen.
Never give up, keep an open mind and be willing to learn. That is the best piece of advice
that I can give you when it comes to success with Kindle Publishing and pretty much life
in general.
Long story short, let s get started on your journey to creating one of your first bestselling
Kindle Books.
3 Steps To Researching Your Topic
Before you venture out to publish your very fist Kindle Book, there is a little bit of work
involved before you can actually start writing (if that is what you intend to do). And when
I say work, I am talking about the fun kind of work, that you will actually learn to enjoy as
you learn the skills of a bestselling author.
When you research the topic for your book, let it be fiction or non-fiction, you will always
use a minimum of three different resources to find all the information that you need. Those
are, the Google Keyword Planner, Amazon Suggested Searches and the Amazon Bestseller
Categories. The reason why we do this research, is to determine our target audience and
find the categories that get the most attention.
First of all, let's head over to the Google keyword planner. We will only use this tool to get
a rough idea of what terms are being search for the most.
Simply enter your keyword in the section where it says Your Product or Service and
click Get ideas
For this example, I have chosen the keyword how to write a book .
Make sure to select the keyword ideas tab when the results are displayed and also sort
them by average monthly searches.
The competition displayed on these results is not relevant to our research. All we are
looking for is to get some good ideas for book titles and ideas for our books in general.
Start saving some ideas in a text file on your computer. You can also write them down on
a piece of paper if you prefer.
Now that you have a list of keywords, let's move over to the second research phase, which
is also a lot more targeted, since it will show you what people are actually typing in the
most on Amazon, in descending order.
Let's move over to the Amazon Kindle Store.
Taking our keyword how to write a book for example, let s start typing it in&
As you can see, as we type in the keyword, Amazon will give you keyword suggestions
based on the amount of searches that these keywords get on their site.
This is GOLDEN. It will show you exactly what people type in when they are looking to
buy a book.
When we go into marketing your book in the last section of this guide, I will show you
exactly how to optimize your Book Title and Description to get the most exposure.
Knowing what your potential readers are looking for is absolutely invaluable. Make sure to
conduct this kind of research every single time before you start writing your book.
Another part of the equation is finding the right categories for you to post your books in.
What I mean by right category is basically a category that is easy to break into the top 100
bestsellers (which I will show you in a bit) and at the same time has a high earning
potential.
Follow me to the Bestseller section of the Amazon Kindle store for a moment.
Click Here To Get To The Kindle Bestseller Store
On the left hand side you can see all the different bestseller categories. By clicking on each
of those main categories, you get to the sub-categories of that category.
In order to find a low competition / high revenue category, you will have to do some
searching through the different sections.
For demonstration purposes, let us choose the category Religion & Spirituality > Occult >
Supernatural
To determine the competition of a book, Amazon has made it very easy for us by giving us
a Sales Rank of every book. This number is displayed in the Product Details section
right after the Description and editorial Reviews.
Lets take a look at the sales rank of the number one selling book in the Supernatural
category.
It has a Sales Rank of 3,650 which means it is the 3,650th most sold book on the Kindle
Store. In term of sales, that roughly translates to about 20 - 30 Sales Per Day!
Not too bad, right? Keep in mind that these numbers are estimates and may vary per day, as
the number of books in the Kindle Store changes every day.
There is a handy little tool that you can use to figure out how many copies a book is
selling based on it's sales rank: http://kdpcalculator.com
To find out if a category will be easy to get into the bestseller list for, we take a look at
the 20th bestselling book and the number 100 of the list.
First, the number 20.
As you can see, it has a rank of 34,000, which is not too hard to get. You will only need a
hand full of sales to get there. With the promotional tasks you are going to learn, you will
be able to get there within a few days.
The number 100 book of the Supernatural category has a sales rank of 130,000
This tells us that with one sale a day or even less, you are going to be able to break into
the top 100 bestseller list, which entitles you to call yourself an Amazon Bestseller.
Generally, this is how I go about finding categories that I will publish in. Doing your
research is essential, as it will save you a lot of time in the long run.
Writing Your Book
There are two different ways you can go about writing your book. You can either write it
yourself or have it ghost written.
I personally enjoy writing (especially non-fiction) an I can write about 5,000 words a day
before I need to call it a day.
The tools I use to create my books are both very simple, and cheap (or even free). If you
are a mac user, then I recommend using Writer Pro which can be purchased from the App
store. It is one of the most amazing yet simple writing tools I have ever used.
I create the first draft with Writer, then I convert it to word format and finish it off in
OpenOffice, which you can get for free here:
https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html
You will need OpenOffice to get clickable links and pictures into your books. Simply use
the formatting guidelines provided on the kdp.amazon.com site to format your document, or
you can use the bonus template I have provided.
Note: When using OpenOffice or any other text editor, you will manually need to insert
page breaks. If not, your entire book will be displayed as one big chunk of text in Kindle
Format (because it uses HTML)
Other than that, formatting your Kindle Books is super simple and takes less than 30
minutes to do. Of course, you can also outsource it on Fiverr.com for only $5 :
http://fiverr.com/creativelog/convert-your-word-document-professionally-into-a-kindle-format-
filebook-with-clickable-toc-that-will-get-accepted-by-amazon-immediately
If you are going to outsource a non-fiction book, I would recommend these two sites:
https://www.odesk.com/ & http://www.guru.com/
IMPORTANT: Never ask for a Book to be written, because people will charge you a
lot more than when you say you want a short report or an article. (although it ends up
being the same thing)
The average length of such a short report is about 6000 words and should not cost you
more than $100 to get it written.
Outsourcing fiction is a lot cheaper, since it doesn't require the any prior research. I highly
recommend these two people on Fiverr, who can create some amazing fiction short stories
for less than $50 =Ø

http://fiverr.com/milamber3/write-a-short-story-for-you-based-on-3-items-and-a-setting
Another very important element that will help your Kindle Book succeed is a compelling
book cover.
I used to create these covers myself using photoshop and I know how to do it and can
create some awesome covers. If you really want to have a quality book cover that will blow
the competition out of the water, I recommend using this designer on Fiverr. You won t
find a cheaper and better book cover designer than this.

You are getting my most valuable resources here. These are the people I personally hire to
write my books and design my covers.
Publishing Your Book
There are many guides out there on how to publish your books on Kindle, an I have
included a bonus guide for your that outlines the process in detail with screenshots.
Note: Personally, I enroll all my books in the KDP select program, since some of my
promotional strategies revolve around offering my book for free for a short period of time.
However, Amazon has changed the system during the last couple years and some people
agree that the 5 Free promotional days you get by enrolling into KDP Select aren t as
effective as they used to be. At the end of the day, I will have to leave the choice to you,
but if you don t plan on offering your books on any other platforms, then you may as
well enroll into KDP Select.
What I am going to share with you right here, is the Up-To-Date method of Title and
Description Optimization that I personally use when publishing my books.
Now it is time to go back to the list of Keywords we collected from our research earlier.
The Title
If you really want to optimize your title for a certain keyword that has a high search
volume on Amazon (appears high in the suggested search terms) then I highly recommend
you use that keyword in the title of your book. If not, then you can still add that to the
keyword section when you go to publish your book. In some cases, it doesn t make that
much sense, or it doesn t sound right using your main keyword in the title.
Choose a title that immediately states the benefit that people will get from reading your
book (in case of a non-fiction book)
For fiction books, I highly recommend going to the Top 100 Bestseller lists and take a look
at the book title there. Technically, you could even copy a successful book title since
copyright does not apply to book titles& although I absolutely don t recommend doing
that from an ethical standpoint.
You can still use successful book titles as an inspiration to create your own. There is
nothing wrong with that and it is a method that has been proven to be very effective.
The Description
Think of your description as a magazine ad. This is where you show the reader that your
book es exactly what they want and need to achieve their desired end result.
It is a sales pitch. Most people do the mistake of abusing this super important section of
their book page to describe their book in the most boring way possible& Don't do that.
Instead, paint a picture in their mind where they will see themselves achieve what it is that
they want. You need to leave them wanting to read more, so don't give them the answer in
the description&
Again, it is ok to look at successful book's descriptions as a source of inspiration. Just don't
copy anyone's work. Remember that you are in this for the long run.
The Keywords
This is where you put your main keyword + 6 other related keywords based on Amazon s
Suggested search terms.
You do this so that your book has a chance to rank for those keywords and be found when
readers type those in. If you rank high or not depends on a variety of different factors such
as number of book sales, positive reviews and more.
Making Your Descriptions Look Amazing
Use Author Central To Give Your Descriptions A Boost!
https://authorcentral.amazon.com
It's free and can help you increase your sales! I don't know why so many people don't use
it...maybe it's because they don't even know that it exists!
You can even sign up using your KDP account details. Once logged in, you can add books
that you own. This way you can add editorial reviews, customize and format your book
description and make it stand out!
Now let's have a look at the difference in book descriptions...
It makes a huge difference to the overall appearance of your amazon book page. Just have
a look:
Normal Description
With Author Central
Use these tools to make your book description really stand out! It will make a big
difference!
People will find it much easier to go through your descriptions when they are not all
cluttered together ;) Keep it short, make them want to buy your book and always deliver
on your promise. This will keep them coming back for more.
Kindle Book Marketing Mastery
There are many ways to market your Kindle Books. Some of the most effective ones that I
personally use are:
Free Promotions
Social Media Marketing
YouTube Marketing
Free promotions using the KDP Select program is probably the most obvious and basic
promotional method for your books.
You set up a free promotion in your KDP Dashboard under Manage Promotions and
you let it run& :D
Obviously, there are a couple of tips and tricks you can apply to maximize the effectiveness
of these free promos drastically.
There are websites out there where you can submit your book to be promoted when it is
free. Most pages will need a couple days to a week notice before your free promotion starts.
Some of these sites include:
http://www.armadilloebooks.com
http://digitalinktoday.com
http://www.ebooksfreedaily.com
http://ebookshabit.com
http://indiebookoftheday.com
http://www.pixelofink.com
and many more!
If you want to do all these submissions on Autopilot, there is a premium piece of software
that can do that for you. It is not cheap, but it can be very worth it.
Click Here To Check It Out Now
Also, another neat little trick that I personally discovered by accident when I did my
very fist KDP Select promotion, is to manually end the promotion a couple of hours before
it is supposed to manually end. What this does is that it keeps your book at the top of the
Free Bestsellers for a couple extra hours (but with it's regular price)
This will give you some natural paid sales, resulting in an increase of your Paid Bestseller
Rank, which in turn results in even more sales.
If your book is of good quality and you have some good reviews, there is no reason why
your book could keep climbing in an upwards spiral and stay at a high rank for a long
time.
I have had that happen myself so I know that it works.
Social Media Marketing
I generally like to build a Fan Page around a pen name that I have and build a solid fan
base. You can run paid Facebook ads to get more likes to your FanPage, or you can
manually promote your fanpage in relevant Kindle and Book Publishing books. There are
hundreds of related FanPages out there for you to explore and interact in.
Secret Bonus Viral Strategy
It is really simple to set up:
Simply In The Details and Click Create My Button
YouTube Video Marketing
I have an entire guide on using YouTube as an extremely effective way to promote your
Kindle Books.
You can have it for free& by paying with a Tweet :)
Not only do you get my amazing guide for free that is currently being sold, but you also
get to immediately apply the new Viral Marketing Strategy you just learned!

Paid Promotions
If you really want to play with the Big Buys and don t want to put a lot of work into
marketing your book + have a Budget for advertising, I highly recommend using BookBub:
http://www.bookbub.com/partners/pricing
They are not cheap, but they can easily bring in 10,000 downloads on a free book
promotion or 1000 - 2000 Sales depending on your book niche.
They are the elite of paid book promotions and they don t accept every book. Just read
the requirements and you will see what I mean. I have seen people catapult into the Top
100 Overall Kindle Bestsellers using BookBub, and if you have a high quality book, I can
absolutely recommend them.
