Patient position: seated, with the elbow flexed
to 90 degrees and shoulder abducted to 90
degrees in slight extension, with the humerus
in slight internal (medial) rotation to ~20
degrees. If the scapular stabilizers are weak,
they must be stabilized by the examiner.
Examiner pressure: against the posterolateral
surface of the arm above the elbow in the
direction of adduction and slight flexion. As
test pressure is applied, counterpressure is
applied posteriorly (from the front) proximally
on the shoulder girdle.
