Patient position: seated, with the elbow flexed
to 90 degrees and shoulder abducted to 90
degrees and in slight flexion, with the
humerus in slight external (lateral) rotation to
~30 degrees. If the scapular stabilizers are
weak, they must be stabilized by the
examiner.
Examiner pressure: against the anteromedial
surface of the arm in the direction of
adduction and slight extension. As test
pressure is applied, counterpressure is
applied anteriorly (from behind) proximally on
the shoulder girdle.
