In the Imperial Dynasties of China, that colors that
could be used in the clothing of a government
HEAD and HAT
official depended on the official s rank.
The clothing in this sculpture is that worn by a
Minister of Internal Affairs of the day. Key features
of this outfit include a hat accented with a peacock
feather, a coral necklace, and a short cloak. The
Minister s hands are hidden in his sleeves, as was
the custom of the time in China.
