Three job profiles
Market research analyst
THE JOB: Market research analysts are concerned with a product or service's potential sales. They study past statistics to predict future sales, gather data on competitors, and provide the necessary information for deciding how to promote, distribute, design and price products or services. They devise methods and procedures, including telephone, personal or mail surveys, to assess consumer preferences. Analysts may conduct opinion research to determine public attitudes on various issues.
SKILLS: Those considering careers as marketing research analysts must have strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Patience and persistence are necessary, because marketing research analysts must spend long hours studying independently and problem-solving. At the same time, they must work well with others, because they often oversee interviews for a wide variety of individuals. And they need to be able to present their findings in a clear, meaningful way.

House painter
THE JOB: House painters apply paint, stain, varnish and other finishes to homes. They choose the right paint or finish for the surface to be covered, taking into account durability, ease of handling, method of application and the customers' wishes. Painters prepare the surfaces to be covered so the paint will adhere properly by removing the old coat and washing walls. Painters also mix paints and match colors.
SKILLS: House painters should be in good physical condition, have good manual dexterity and good color sense. Making effective decisions by analyzing information and considering priorities, and seizing opportunities to initiate and take ownership of projects and improvements are key skills. Additionally, supply management, basic safety, equipment maintenance, thoroughness, independence and good communication skills are important for a good painter.

Interpreter/Translator
THE JOB: Interpreters and translators convert written, oral or sign language text into another language. Both interpreters and translators must be careful while converting information between languages. They must not change the meaning of the information or include their own interpretation.
SKILLS: Interpreters and translators must display the ability to remember, understand and use words in at least two languages when writing or talking. This requires knowledge of the structure and content of both English and a non-English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar and pronunciation. This work often requires the ability to quickly make decisions.
