New England
Geography: Diversified landscape composed of low coastal plains, mountain hills in the west and fertile valleys. Six states constitute the region: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Cold and windy winters.

- Pittsburgh - the Steel City - one fifth of the nation's steel production,
- coal mining in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Agriculture: Productive farm lands find a huge market in the cities of the East Coast.
South
Geography: Mild climate with plentiful rainfall and frequent hurricanes from the Caribbean.
Industry:
- crude oil extraction along the Gulf of Mexico,

- tourism - mainly Florida.

Midwest
Geography: The Great lakes area and eastern Great Plains. The whole region dominated by the Mississippi and the Great Lakes transport. Heavy winters, tornadoes, draughts.

- steel centers of Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and Buffalo supplied with iron ore from around Lake Superior,
- chemical industry - Illinois,
- car industry - Detroit,

West
Geography: Very diversified with extreme scenic beauty. Mountains, wastelands and deserts.

- crude oil - Wyoming, Utah, Colorado,

- air industry - Seattle,
- Silicon Valley.
Agriculture: Difficult, requiring lots of irrigation:

Southwest
Geography: Dry, empty, ethnically mixed.

- air and space industry - New Mexico,
- tourism - most beautiful national parks are located here.
