Sleep deprivation - it is a problem of modern society, because when people were independent of electricity they lived according to the daily cycle. They had more time for sleep and rest. They didn't have television, so they went to bed early. Nowadays some people work at night or go to clubs. 75% of the word's population drinks coffee which masks the symptoms of “sleep deprivation”.

Today people are very busy, they have a lot of responsibilities at work and at home and they don't have enough time to do it. People try to eat organic food, exercise every day but they forget about eight hours of sleep. They don't realize how important sleep is to our heath.

People spend a lot of time at work and shops. Many things tempt them away from theirs beds for instance TV. the Internet. Today most people sleep only 6 hours so they live in an almost permanent state of “sleep debt”.

When people suffer from lack of sleep they are unhappy and sad, they don't have motivation to work. Doctors, for example, are often sleepy which may cause difficulty in making decisions. In such a situation it is very important to think quickly. Human error caused by lack of sleep can result in a terrible tragedy for instance Chernobyl. On our roads and motorways thousands of people die because drivers are tired. People don't realize that they can hurt themselves and others.

People should pay more attention to the problem of sleep deprivation. Few hours of sleep isn't enough for our body to regenerate after the previous day.

However, there are a few tips on how to sleep better:

  1. If you are tired go to bed,

  2. Take a nap during the day,

  3. Try to go to bed at regular hours,

  4. Ventilate your bedroom,

  5. Don't watch television in the bedroom.
