Problem of tolerance (the AIDS victims, the disabled, etc.)
It has been reported that about 10 million people may have been infected by the virus that causes AIDS. AIDS is killing hundreds of people all over the world. So far there is no cure for it. It is really a tragic illness and people “touched” by it live a terrible life. They are not only victims of the HIV virus, but also the victims of the society which is very often not tolerant enough to accept them. So they are usually isolated from the “tolerant” society, very often they lose their job, friends and even family, who try to avoid them. What is more some ill struggle and refuse to be victims. They often try to find an understanding friend. However healthy people can't understand sick - and then the worst happens: the sick person is being treated like an alien or a strange. People think that they may be easily infected. We must remember that it's not possible to get infected by touch or a kiss. The most possible way of being infected is by blood and by sex. We should be more tolerant and we should help them, because we are people and they are people and we can't close those people in cages like animals. We must remember that we may be in the same situation. Then we will be counting for someone to help us live.
Disabled (handicapped) - these are people who can't live like others {e.g. they can't see, hear or talk, also that may be some people without leg(s) or hand(s)}. Very often we don't see that they are also humans like we all are and they need our help. Not only financial but maybe a little tolerance. There are still too little facilities (like drive ways, special toilets or vehicles) to make their life easier. Many busses or trains haven't got special platforms yet. So, it's very hard to travel from place to place. What is more, there aren't enough work places for them - it's almost impossible to find a job beyond their house. Therefore, they are taken away the chance to live like every normal person. We are not accustomed to seeing handicapped in the streets. Sometimes we are staring at them and it isn't too pleasant for them. Firstly, we should learn our children that they are also human beings, and need to be helped not laughed at. Invalids have also financial problems, as they aren't given as much money as it would be enough to live (…godnie…)… .
Aggression in everyday life (juvenile delinquency, crime, violence).
Young generation and their problems (addictions, bad habits, stress, phobias, generation gap, earning money).
Alcoholism, smoking cigarettes, taking drugs - modern plagues.
Today crimes grow and grow. In my opinion there are many problems about it. First of all is high unemployment. People lose their job and can't find another one. So they turn to crime, stealing, or some other things, because it's easy way of making money. Another reason is to low punishments for criminals. They walk on the streets with impunity and feeling they can do anything they want. The next problem is that films, TV and computer games shows too much violence. That is surly bad example for them.
“The 12 years old boy killed his friend because he hadn't given him money” - we hear nearly every evening in TV. There are more and more the teenager-criminals. Why are the young people so violent? At first the young people aren't controlled by parents. The adults are often too much busy to perceive that something bad with their children is going on. But sometimes there is too late to act. The next cause is that teenagers don't have anything to do. They are bored in school, home and everyday duties, so they search for interesting amusement. Day after day they are agreed to do what they want - go on a disco, drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, or even take drugs. It all ends with stealing, devastation or murder. Young people tend to spend too much time watching TV, and most of all, playing computer games. Films filled with violence, show them much easier way of making money or manage with people. In my opinion authorities should built more institution for them and to organize places, where they could spend their free time and develop their interests. Moreover, parents should definitely talk with their kids, listen to them and spend as much time with them as possible.
Phobia is a deadly fear of something (or somebody). In today world there are more and more such fears. People are frightened of many things, like: spiders, space, height, etc. Phobia often isn't inborn illness, but acquired during our life. It may have its beginning in situation which wasn't very pleasant for us. For example when a child was locked in some little room (e.g. closet) and something bad had happened - this kid is very propable to get a phobia. Of course some fears we have are inborn: like height fear or aversion to spiders. But if we had some bed memories, a simple fear could develop to phobia. Today there is only one way to defeat such problems. It is a cure steered by psychologist. If we try to treat by ourselves, there isn't too much chance to defeat a fear. About one year ago I heard about a new discover in science. Scientists have found genes, which are responsible for our fears.
They did many medical experiments and examinations on white mice and maybe it could also help us fight the phobias in the near future.
Today more and more people have some habits. Everyone is very nervous and greedy. They can't cope with their life, they have too many duties or problems and then search for a help. If they don't find it in family or friends, they will certainly reach for an alcohol or drugs. They start to do it day by day, because then world changes for better and looks nicer. It is the beginning of an addiction. The second cause - when a young men (or women) wants to make an impression on his contemporary (ries). He starts with cigarettes or alcohol. The situation is worse when parents of that young man aren't interested of him and then he can do what he wants. The worst thing about drugs is that they are available for everyone, even children. The most important point is to have strong will. If people who acquired a habit, don't have strong will there won't be any chance to get out from force of habit. If it is about smokers, they can e.g. buy some special plasters with nicotine, which provide for their need of a cigarette. Drunkard has a bigger problem, because they “only” have to be strong enough to resist alcohol. There isn't any medicine to fight with this addiction, but special meetings are organized. There, they can talk about theirs problem and meet people, who has similar nightmare. It is a very long process to defeat any kind of addiction. The simplest way, is not to start it, but if someone does, he has to be conscious of a fact, that he will never get out from the force of habit completely. Addicts are in the worst situation as they have to be cured in special hospitals. They can be infected with AIDS as well.
Traveling (advantages and disadvantages)
People have traveled all over the world from the very beginning of their existence. Over the last 200 years, means of traveling have changed and developed a great deal. Now we have many forms of traveling. We can use bikes, cars, trains, planes and ships. We can of course go on foot. When you are in travel you have time to know places you visit better and make friends with people met on the way. You can see other countries culture, architectural and historical sites. You can learn much only by sightseeing (e.g. museums, galleries, churches or old castles). Visiting historical places (like Waterloo) is also very thrilling. Most of all you can almost feel the atmosphere just before the battle. It's amazing how we can develop our imagination during traveling.
The importance of English
During the last hundred years English has become the most popular language in the world. English is spoken all over the earth by about 700 million people. It is official language of Great Britain, the United States of America, Australia and New Zeland. All other nations including the polish people are forced to learn English if they want to communicate with foreigners or to make sightseeing visits to other countries. Nowadays there are numerous ways to learn English language. In Poland most of young people learn English at school, so all of them can say at least few simple words. It is the most important language in all computer businesses and it is also very serious way of communication in politics, trades, banking and science. If we know English we will read good literature in original versions, watch films without translated dialogues and we will be able to find a well-paid job in every country in Europe or even the world.
School (advantages and disadvantages + what to change)
For many years of our life we attend school: Primary, High School and later College. In my dreams I can almost see that ideal school: pretty appearance, nice colors of walls, big windows (to be light), spacious halls, colorful furniture - all in all it will make school more interesting and will catch everyone's eye and say: “COME AND SEE ME INSIDE!”. Teachers should be patient, smart, smiling and honest, nice to students. Also pupils could change a bit: they should be diligent, polite to teachers, should respect their school (no drawings on the tables or furniture). The lessons might be less schematic. We could learn only information that could be used in our future life - not only theory, but also practice (how to use this information) - in one word: nothing needles. Moreover, there could be more laugh and less boredom. There could be also new division of lessons: one day we could learn only one subject, in the next day - another and another. What can I say more: breaks should be longer as we can't even eat a small sandwich because the ring says that the lesson has started. So we swallow the whole sandwich at once - that could be the quickest way to be sick and not come to our DEAREST school.
SPORT (the importance of, as a hobby, sport at school)
Sport is, or should be, one of the most important things in everyone's life. Doing sport, every kind of it, is not only healthy but it develops your mind, coordination and cooperativeness with other team members. For me the best sport is volleyball. It's a demanding sport - I mean, you must give up a lot to become a good player. This type of spending free time build up your strength, you become faster and most of all you must think during the game. But there is one discipline of sport everyone knows and almost everyone admire. It's football - the most popular sport in the world. While some children prefer watching their much admired footballers, others are more keen on taking part in the action. They look forward to the school day to end so they can play a game of football in the street or on the school field. Young boys imagine themselves becoming famous footballers. They dream of scoring the winning goal for the championship as well as seeing fans applauding for the victory with great enthusiasm. Boys are not only fanatics. Men aren't different. They wait for Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons to come, so that they can enjoy the day by sitting in front of TV and cheering on their favorite team in e.g. Champions League. I think that everybody should take up some sport just for a hobby, because health is the only thing everyone should bother about. Isn't it?
ANIMALS (keeping pets, endangered species, vegetarianism)
Keeping pets in home is a very popular attraction nowadays. It's obvious that nearly every kid wants to have his own pet. But frankly speaking not all of those animals will be treated properly. Just after buying e.g. dog, it is the most important “thing” in child's life, but after some time, when this dog grow up, it becomes boring, dirty and it smells. So parents are to take care of them. In some cases dogs are given to a dog pound - and it's the most disgusting thing I have heard about. That's why: I think pets should be bought when a child (or a older person) is really interested in sharing with it not only the living space, but mostly it MUST be loved by its owner. If you want to be a good owner you must be also responsible for your pet. Another thing that involves animals is that many of them are in danger. The awful truth is that many species are in danger of becoming extinct unless wildlife conservation societies are supported by all of us. We must not miss the opportunity to help animals which need protection, and we have to pay attention to which species are at risk. The experience of seeing wild animas at close quarters will convince all of us that they need as much help as we can give them. And we should also try to ensure that animals are only kept in captivity when necessary.
Protecting the natural environment.
There are many problems which threats our natural environment. Acid rain, global warming and air and water pollution are among the most serious ones. There are several ways to help improve the situation. Firstly, we should encourage recycling because it is the production of new materials which causes the most damage. We must learn to reuse things like plastic bags and glass jars. Secondly, driving an environmentally-friendly car would be also helpful. Furthermore, joining an organization which plants trees or cleans up beaches would be a prove that you are really concerned about the environment. Lastly, supporting groups such as Greenpeace which try to prevent many environmental disasters would help to ensure that our planet will be clean and safe enough for our children or grandchildren to live at. If we obey some of these points maybe we won't be destroyed by e.g. global warming. It is also called “The Greenhouse Effect”. Gases pollute the atmosphere because they are produced too quickly to be cleaned away naturally by rain, winds or plant life. These poisonous gases come from several sources such as oil producers, industries which burn fuel and motor vehicles. When the gases are released, they have two harmful effects. Firstly, some of them are caught by rain clouds and fall as acid rain, which damages the environment. Secondly, increasing amounts of carbon dioxide forms a cover over the earth's surface just as a greenhouse keeps heat in. the increase of carbon dioxide is getting worse by the cutting down rain forests. Trees use carbon dioxide to life and produce oxygen, and the fewer trees there are, the more of this gases remains in the air. The USA is now leading an international affords to limit deforestation. In 1996, Washington set goals for industry, and several industrial agreements have already been effective in reducing the production of harmful gases. Only industrial cooperations can solve this problem which, if not controlled, may threaten all life on earth.
