Latest technology for maximum precision

Accurate production of tunnel tubes below ground requires maximum precision. Herrenknecht equips its machinery with the latest technology to ensure the necessary levels of data management and safe and targeted tunnel boring machine operation through all geologies. Control units ensure that tunnelling is monitored and controlled at all times. Depending on the diameter of the tunnel boring machine, the control unit can be set up in the machine itself or in a container on the construction site. At diameters from 1,800mm, the control unit can be installed in the machine

Control unit components

The control unit consists of a control panel, a computer unit and, for graphic displays, a monitor. Via the computer unit, all data - e.g. hydraulics oil pressure, strokes of individual hydraulic cylinders - can be measured and displayed. In addition, the monitor can also display a graphic showing the current position of the tunnel boring machine. The machine's guide cylinders are operated from the control panel, thus maneuvering the tunnel boring machine. All measurements of values can be compared with the intended values - e.g. hydraulics temperature and oil pressure - and if the tolerance thresholds are exceeded, a warning will appear and the tunnel boring machine will be stopped automatically.

This prevents faults and saves the data on each bore operation for analysis later. In other words, any bore operation can be reconstructed at any time.
