Dear Martin O SOBIE I RODZINIE I'm very pleased that we're going to be penfriends. I will tell you a little about myself, and you can do the same when you write to me. My name is Marek Ferenc. Now I live in Giżycko on Królowej Jadwigi street. Giżycko is a small town in the nort-east of Poland. It is called the capital of Mazury, the region of lakes, forest and fresh air. Giżycko is fomous for is nature.I am a soldier in military rank of capitan. I work in military unit in Giżycko. I want to learn English for my job. I am interested in sport. I like reading historical and adventure books. I like travelling, walks with my family and jogging in the wood. The most important thing in my life is my family. I am married. J have three children: a daughter, and two sons. My wife Irena is a teacher and she works in primary school. Our daughter Aneta is 17 years old and she goes to high school. She learns very well. Our older son's, name is Michał, he is 5 years old and he goes to the kindergarden. Our younger son's, name is Adam , he is 3 years old and he is looked after by his grandmother. Best wishes.

GIŻYCKO The town's history dates back to XVI (sixteenth) century. It received city's rights and name Lotzen in 1612 (sixteen hundred twelve). After the Second World War the name change into Les and after 1946 (nineteen hundred forty six) - into Giżycko. Giżycko is a small town in the north-east of Poland. It is called the capital of Mazury, the region of lakes, forests and fresh air. There are some interesting places to visit in Giżycko: Teutonic the castle from 1340 (thirteen hundred forty); the Protestant church from XIX ( nineteenth) century; the monument house from XIX century where Wojciech Kętrzyński was born and Fortress Boyen from XIX century. Giżycko is famous for its nature. You can relax on the beatch, go to the forest for a walk or do some watersports here. There are many restaurants and pubs where you can eat something.

MY FAVOURITE AUTHOR My favourite author is writer Henryk Sienkiewicz . He got a fame of one of the greatest creators of Polish and World - wide prose as an author of historical novels, such as: “Trylogia”, which consists of three novels: “Ogniem i mieczem”, “Potop” and “Pan Wołodyjowski”. In novel “Teutonic Knights” he showed the struggles of knightly Poland with Teutonic Order, till the victory in the battle of Grunwald. In 1905 (nineteen hundred five) he received the Nobel prize for novel “Quo vadis” in which he showed the Christianity's victory over the violence of Roman Empire. In novel for children “W pustyni i w puszczy” he showed variegated lots and adventures of Staś and Nel in Africa. In 1900 (nineteen hundred) as a gift from nation in twenty fifth anniversary of his creation he received palace in Oblęgorek by Kielce.

MY FAVOURITE BOOK My favourite book is “Trylogia” written by Henryk Sienkiewicz between 1884 (eighteen eighty four) and 1888 (eighteen eighty eight). It consists of three novels: “Ogniem i mieczem”, “Potop” and “Pan Wołodyjowski”. In the centre of the action there are lots of characters - Skrzetuski, Kmicic, Wołodyjowski, their bravery, complicated lots, patriotism and strength of feelings. In `Trylogia” the author included variegated picture of life and events in Poland in XVII (seventeenth) century, when the lots of powerful Poland were hanging in the balance in battles with Cossacks, Sweden and Turkey. “Trylogia” was written “to sustain hearts” and it proves that in the moment of danger the nation is capable to effective defence of their country.

My job. I am soldier for seventeen years. I am working as a military radar controller. I am a captain. I work in Giżycko so I go to work by bus and by underground. It takes me about one hour. I start work at 7.30 (half past seven) a.m. and I work for 24 (twenty four) hours. When I arrive at work I have to get dressed a uniform. I work as a military radar controller so my work is very difficult and very responsible. I have to observe planes which are in the air. This place is dark and quite so I can't to speak up. Sometimes I have shooting, drills and regulations. When I arrive at home I am tired. I like my job because my job is very interesting and very exciting.

Why do you learn English? English is an international language, which is use all people. Perhaps English is the most important language in the world. I am a soldier so I have to communicate in English with different soldiers from NATO. I didn't learn English in elementary school and second school. I learn English for five months so far. I am a beginner. My wife learns English for two years and my children, too. I thing it is very difficult language but I like this language and I understand more words. I and my family want to go abroad on holiday. Especially to Florida. It is our dream.

My favourite sports. I like many kinds of sports: football and volleyball more. When I was a left elementary school I started playing volleyball. It was my only sport. I traveled a lot and I met new people. Now I have three children and I work a lot so I don't play volleyball. Once a week we go to swim because we don't have free time. In the evening when I heave free time I watch sports TV. I watch matches no TV, especially when Polish team plays. Now Adam Małysz is very popular sportsman. This year will be The World Football Championship so all Polish people will be watch TV. I hope Polish Team win this championship.

My favourite holiday sport. Every year I have holiday in summer because I like this season. I want to spend our holiday by the sea this year. When weather is warm and sunny I like playing volleyball on the beach with my family and friends. This is my favourite holiday sport. When I was a left elementary school I started playing volleyball. It was my only sport. I traveled a lot and I met new people. My the oldest son play volleyball, too. The second favourite sport is swimming. My children like swimming and I like too. Once a month we go to swimming pool because we don't have free time. So when we are on holiday we like swimming every day. It is fantastic.

My plans for holiday. Every year I have holiday in summer because I like this season. I have three children I am going to spend my holiday with my family. So far every years we spend holiday our parents-in-law in the country. Because holiday are expensive for five person in Poland. I want to spend our holiday by the sea this year. We are going to go on holiday by our car. I hope the weather will be warm and sunny when we have our holiday. I like ling on the beach. I and my children like swimming. My wife like sunbathing. My children very like eating ice creams. We will take photographs. In the evening we will walking. Sometimes I and my wife will go at the dancing. I hope the holiday will e very interesting and very nice.

My hobby. I don't have any hobby. Because I work a lot. I have free children and I often have to help to do their homework. I usually pick up my children at school. Every weekends I and my wife must to work because we have own business. We get up early morning so we are very tired in the afternoon. I hardly ever read books. I sometimes read newspaper but I often watch news on TV. When I was a teenager I played volleyball. It was my hobby.
