READING COMPREHENSION
Read the text carefully and choose the best answer to each question.
IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE! Does the furniture in your living room look tired? It probably looked good when you first bought it. Even if it's only a few years old, it will look out-of-date. Fashions in furniture change quickly. Our parents used to keep their furniture all their lives- but we don' t do this today.
So take another look at your living room. A cheap way of making the room different is to change the furniture and the pictures round. Don't be afraid of making big changes. Take those old curtains down and give them a good wash. And while you're about it, give the carpet a wash, too. Take the pictures down and change them with pictures in another room. If you've got a little money to spend, you can make it go a long way. Buy some new material and get somebody to cover your old armchairs- if you can't do it yourself, of course. Paint the walls in bright modern colours. If you've got plenty of money to spend, burn that old sofa in the corner and buy a new one. Install hi-fi equipment, then sit back and enjoy your stereo records!
A word of advice: if you want to buy new furniture don't spend a lot of money. Cheap wooden shelves look beautiful if you paint them. Wives can get their husbands to put up shelves in unused corners of the house (even the laziest do-it-yourself handyman will do something if you tell him you're going to save his money!). Husbands can get their wives to make new curtains cheaply (even the laziest housewife will do something if you tell her you'll save enough to buy her a new dress!). Take another look round the house - you'll agree, it's time for a change! |
a) saving money b) interior decoration c) furniture business d) conflicts between generations
