By the way, you are not alone in being fond of the word “but”. Many Norwegians use this word a lot in conversation, probably because it is quite common to use the word “men” in Norwegian in conversation. However, if you say the word out loud ………….(say it)……………….. you will notice that it is quite a hard-sounding word with the “b” and the “t” . Words like “however”, “nonetheless”, “although”, “on the other hand” are all much softer yet mean exactly the same thing - could be useful in a negotiation situation when you are required to be very tactful or very cautious. It's a nuance but many nuances together make a big noise (and maybe one of the reasons why Norwegians are considered a bit hard sometimes when they speak English).
