Name of the course: Human and Social Capital (2009)

Course requirements

Student's grade is based on preparing and analyzing case study concerning chosen topic in groups. The general idea of the research project is to show how human and/or social capital are/is built or destroyed in a chosen organization.

Groups

Students will be divided into 9 groups (3-4 people each). Students are free to create a group and each group is free to choose one topic. Each group will prepare a research report and a class presentation.

Research report

Research reports have to be submitted by 18 December 2009. The content of the report includes:

  1. Description (summary) of the project (approximately 500 words)

  2. Short description of the organization (app. 250 words)

  3. Aims of the project (research question/s)

  4. Research method used for gathering the data (including a questionnaire)

  5. Research results

  6. Recommendations for the organization (for other organizations)

Topics

  1. Traditional training system as a tool in building human capital in a chosen organization

  2. E-learning system as a tool in building human capital in a chosen organization

  3. Motivating system in building human capital in a chosen organization

  4. Project as a training method in a chosen organization in a context of human capital building

  5. Mentoring and coaching in a chosen organization in a context of human capital building

  6. Assess the company investments in training

  7. Evaluate the process of professional career management in organization

  8. Managers as creators of human/ intellectual capital

  9. Analyze the difference in earnings depending of education level in Poland

  10. Doing business on social networks: how managers and firms use social networks for making money

  11. Hiring people through social networks: benefits and costs

  12. The role of trust in financial sector - micro or macro perspective

  13. Investing in social capital: how organizations spend money on social networking and trust

  14. The role of social capital in a manager's career development

Class presentations

Each presentation will take 15-20 minutes. All members of the group have to take an active part in the presentation. The class presentation should be supported by power point presentation.
