Food, restaurants; Czech, English and American meals
Czech cuisine
Czech cuisine is said to be very fatty and unhealthy. I think it is true. I've never seen any nation (except Germans), which considers sauces and meat swimming in fat to be the best meal ever. For all that I like time to time our cuisine, for example at the family meetings at my grand-parents. I love that smell of roasted duck, when I open the door or that feeling when I put a hot homemade dumpling into my mouth. After such a lunch I cannot move and feel like my stomach must every second blow up, but I feel lucky!
In general, I prefer some kind of Greek or Spain cuisine, because I rate them more healthy but above all tastier.
British eating habits
It is said that the British have about eight times of a day, when they eat. A day begins with breakfast followed by elevenses, then comes lunch, after that tea, then in the evening dinner and a day is ending by supper. It is healthier to eat often but not so much, but of course you have to also eat healthy things.
Traditional British breakfast consists of a glass of juice, cereal, grilled bacon, eggs and tomatoes, beans and sausages. This breakfast you typically get in hotels or restaurants, but ordinary people don't have so much time to cook that everything in the morning when they are hurrying to a work. They usually eat some toasts either with marmalade or with some spread and they drink mainly coffee but also tea.
“Elevenses” is just some cake and coffee. Lunch is not a main meal of a day like it is common by us. It consists of a light food like pizza or toast. Only on Sundays or feasts days is lunch much bigger, then it is called dinner.
“Tea” is a part of the day when small snacks are being served and eaten. First it is (of course) tea, then a bread and butter or cheese, jam, cakes and pies. It is just small refreshment before dinner.
The hot dinner is being served around 7 pm comprises the main meal of a day. It is very similar to lunch in Czech Republic. First course is soup, then comes a main course (consists predominantly of meat with a garnish) and the last course is a dessert. After this exhausting meal in the evening comes (I can't believe it) supper, what is tea again, with biscuits, sandwiches or cakes.
If I said, that eating more times a day is healthier, then this evening portion for “good” night is totally unhealthy and may cause sleeplessness.
Eating in fast-foods and restaurants
To eat in fast food is becoming the pretty normal trend all over the world. Nowadays we live in a hectic time and we cannot afford spend some much time eating in a normal restaurants during a day. It is more comfortable to get your meal immediately after an order without
a time-wasting waiting. Lots of us prefer speed to quality. It is also cheaper to it this way, but as I talked (or wrote) about health, I must admit that eating in fast-foods and eating healthy don't go together.
Traditional restaurants are more useful for formal occasions like a celebration, business meeting or date with a partner (I can't imagine dating with my partner in the Chinese fast-food at the corner). The ambience is incomparably better and stuff is more pleasant (of course - when they expect a tip). You can choose from larger menu and your meal is being prepared by cook - expert. You can demand the highest quality and if you are not satisfied you can complain.
