COURSE RATIONALE:
The course is designed to extend the students' ability to discuss and debate a range of familiar and unfamiliar topics, to develop their oral skills, with regard to both fluency and accuracy, and to improve negotiation skills through the use of reasoned arguments, specific examples and logical conclusions.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
to use an appropriate register in a given situation
to maintain simple grammatical accuracy and incorporate more complex structures
to increase the precision of their language by the choice of vocabulary
to become more fluent by the use of hedging devices and fixed expressions
to listen and respond appropriately to the arguments of others
COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EVALUATION:
Each student is expected to:
Attend each class. Only TWO unexcused absences from a ninety-minute class are allowed. More than two unexcused absences may result in refusal of the zaliczenie. If a student misses a class, it is his/her responsibility to submit a doctor's certificate to excuse the absence.
Demonstrate correct and effective use of communication skills. Excellent class participation may upgrade a student's overall evaluation, at the teacher's discretion.
Attend each class having prepared assignments and/or read the required material. Failure to prepare the assignments may result in refusal of the zaliczenie.
The zaliczenie grade: assignments and class activity
The final grade: final examination.
