4. Is consumerism only a temporary trend or are we already a consumer society? What are the advantages and disadvantages of rising consumption of goods? What is its effect on an individual, family, business etc.?
At the beginning I want to explain what is a “customer society”. So, customer society is a society in which people often buy new goods. These goods are usually mass-produced and very often people don’t need them. In this society buying and selling is most important and it is all pervasive (wszechobecny) materialism among people.
And I think we are a customer society for a long time and this is not a trend.
The consumption of goods has many advantages, for example:
-it drives the economy because when people want to buy many goods then the production increases, there are more jobs, more incoming, more consumption. It’s a cycle which brings growth and prosperity to a society.
-the next society gets richer and richer.
-In addition this improves our life because every day companies produce goods that meet customer requirements.
-Finally when people buy many products companies have big incomes and they can spend this money on R&G (research and develop) and it makes people more creative, therefore it is formed new and improved products.
But consumerism has also disadvantages:
-It strengthens (wzmacniać) globalization because people buy products of famous companies and this is very difficult for small, local companies to compete in the market.
-The next point is that it leads to metabolism and egoism, people want to have more and more goods even if it doesn’t bring happiness.
-In addition more production made more industrial waste and it has a negative influence on the environment.
In the end when you have yours goods you forget about family and friends, children and you don’t develop human relationship.
