PHONATION TYPES
Voiceless – arytenoids apart, vocal folds widea part as in relaxed breathing:
Voiced – arytenoids together, vocal fold vibrating
Vocal folds vibrate at high speed in the airstream produced by lungs
VF vibrations are comparable to the buzzing of insect

Speed of vibration – frequency
Glottal stop – arytenoids together, vocal folds together but not vibrating
airstream coming from lungs is momentarily stopped
on the release of the glottal closure the blocked air rushes out with an effect rather like a weak cough
Creaky voice – arytenoids together, front portion of the vocal folds in slow vibration, rear portion of the vocal folds in rapid vibration
Creak combined with voice
CREAK: like a succession of glottal stops,
one after another, sound like opening the old door
Whisper – arytenoids apart, vocal folds together but not vibrating
through a gap at the rear of the larynx air passes at fairly high velocity
Breathy voice – arytenoids apart, vocal folds vibrating
combination of voice and whisper
