Rectus temoris. a strong hip joint flexor, is the only member ot quadriceps to cross that joint. Ouadriceps femoris is the only knee extensor. The signifi-cance ot its role beccmes crystal elear to those having experienced a knee injury; the muscles tend to atrephy and weaken rapidly with disuse and 'guad” exercises are essen-tial to mamtain structurai stability ot the joint.
