\J I ■ Director The director is the movie's creative boss and oversees the production process. Before filming starts, though, a producer raises funds to finance the project and a screenwriter drafts and redrafts the script until it is perfect.
Location Some movies are filmed on location (at a real place), while others are filmed on a sound stage built at a film studio. Movies are not shot in scene order—scenes in the same location are all filmed at once to save time and money.
Getting the look Costume designers and make-up artists have worked together to make actor Keanu Reeves look like Prince Siddhartha. Many other Staff help perfect the look of a film, from lighting technicians to the cinematographer (see 04).
Cinematographer Also known as the director of photography, the cinematographer works closely with the director when filming a scene. The cinematographer uses their technical expertise to achieve the effect the director reguires for each shot.
Cue the credits
Hundreds of people form the cast and crew of a movie, and the production process can take years. But the work doesn’t stop there. In post-production the scenes are stitched together digitally, with a soundtrack and special effects added to complete the magie.
