Connections of science and didactics with practice - experiences from the Opole Volvo-
deship.
From 2003 to 2008, an agreement was drawn up between Wrocław Universlty of Envlron-mental and Life Sciences, (former Academy of Agriculture) and the Office of the Marshal of Opole Voivodeship. Within the framework of the agreement scientific workers from the Institute of Landscape Architecture together with students from the Landscape Architecture Department carry out studies concerning plans of locality development. including:
• space and facllities inventory as well as technical and social infrastructure,
• analysis of space management,
• arrangement concept of the analyzed village area, including the study of architecture scheme for the chosen territory according to agreements with leaders of village renewal.
The studies carried out by students are very significant, as they allow avoidance of uncon-sidered actions, whose results can last for years. Proper spatial management of a given village means, first of all, respect for the values found, definition of character and characteristic features of a given place, finding architectonic and town planning forms, distinguishing it from among others. And that is to fulfill social needs included in the plan, to appropriately shape both natural and cultural landscape while not losing anything from its quality and individual character. It is important to create the policy of rational and economical area management.
Acute analysis of details creating buildings and the surrounding of a village is necessary to defme the rangę and directions of spatial development as well as the form and way of shaping the present rural unit. It is also important to treat the village as a whole, while taking any investment decision in its area. Projects for particular piaces in the village, designed with consideration of the whole vislon of the place development will allow avoidance of chaotic actions. Studies, carried out in three parts are helpful in this process.
1. A catalogue of characteristic details.
2. Analytic tables directed at defming weak and strong points of the place as well as a vision and plan of the development of the place.
3. Design conceptions of the chosen piaces in the village.
In 2008 an analysis was carried out with a view to utilization of the studies by local society. It was proved that in thirty localities no project conceptions, received by villages within the framework of the studies, were carried out. Eight villages partly tried to introduce the conceptions, and in another eight the projects were carried out according to the villagers‘ own visions, without taking into consideration the University's conceptions.
The surveys and interviews State that direct contact with the students and the fact that inhabitants were informed about the unique values, which were in the possession of particular lo-calizations and which were often underestimated, were of most vital importance for those piaces.
