Repetitiye compoundina:

holtwudu (wood-wood, forest);

gangelwaefre (going about one, swift moving one, in OE reserved as the words for spider);

under this class is the later compound flutterby, which was transposed in Modern English into butterfly.

Noun-adiective formations:

graesgrene (grass green);

lofgeorn (praise eager);

goldhroden (gold adorned - zdobiony złotem).

Prefix formations: here, as in other Germanie languages, the most common way of creating new words.

OE had many prefixes that derived from prepositions and that altered the meaning of words in special ways.

BE + COME = to arrive into sth;

BE + WARE = to be extra careful;

WITH = OE word for against,

WITHSTAND = to stand against.

Other prefix formation words:

beganga - inhabitant, blgengere - worker, forfrgan - go forth, ingang - entrance, ofgan - demand, t>urhgan - go through, upgan - go up.

begangan - visit, foregan - go before, ingan - go in, ofergenga - traveler, tógan - go into, undergan - undergo,

Not all OE prefixes have come down into Modern English. But for instance the OE prefix tó can be found today in such words as today, towards and together.
