Regulations:

Annex V of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modifted by the Protocol of 1978 (MARPOL 73/78), requires that a record be kept of each discharge operation or complete incineration of ship generated garbage, if the ship is certified to carry 15 or morę passengers and is engaged in voyages of morę than one hour. A garbage management plan must be prepared and vessels of over 12 metres overall length must carry posters or placards to advise crew and passengers of the ship's garbage disposal reąuirements.
