Under such a circumstance, the right to produce new editions of the document would rest solely with you. And, further, any edition which you authorise to publish of the document could be copyrighted by you. In effect, you would control and own all rights to the publication of editions of the document.

Certain limitation must be added. You may not exercise these rights whhout first undertaking a search to assure that no other parties may have a stronger claim to them. This includes heirs to the author, heirs to the originai publisher, heirs to preuous owners of the document itself. This is a long and costły process. Our office can be of some assistance in this.

Furthermore, if the originai author of the document had been a British national, you face the possibility of the British crown determining that the document is of national interest. Under such circumstances, your ownership could be affected by the UKequivalent of what US law
