The center of the shawl is worked f irst.

Knit the lower right hand corner.

The Lily of the Valley borders start at the corner squares and are attached to the center as they are knit. The end of each Lily of the Vallcy section is the beginning of the next corner square.

First Stitch: Do not slip the f irst stitch of row for center square.

Atteching Borders

Working counter eloekwise around shawl, with right side of shawl up, knit last stitch from border together with one stitch from shawl center on oll odd rows. Slip l^>ł stitch of each even row.

Blocking: Lace shoułd be stretchcd to show off pattern.

Center Square

Center squore outline

Loosely cast on 8 stitches,

work in Faggot Pattern for 268

rows.

Center square stert up rows:

End with purl row (wrong side). Loosely bind off 8 stitches.

Do not break yarn. Pick up and knit 134 stitches along the long side of the Faggot Pattern. As you go, inerease 50 stitches evcnly across row; (K3, yo, k2, yo) 10 times, (k3, yo) 12 times, (k3, yo, k2, yo) 9 times, end k3. (184 stitches)

Purl 1 row, purling through the back of the loop on the yo stitches.

Center square bottom inner border

Work 16 rows as follows:

Row 1- 14: Work 8 stitches in Faggot Pattern, place marker, 168 stitches in stockinctte, place marker, work 8 stitches in Faggot Pattern.

Row 15: Work 8 st in Faggot Pattern, k!2, pm
