Noughts and craues
Thrcc shuttles arc necded for this panem, the third one bcing added to form thc crisscrossing chains. The ‘noughts* arc a scrics of split rings end to cnd. Thcse rings were tatted first and thc *crosses\ the crisscrossing bcaded chains, wcrc joincd on latcr. Iłach chain has 10 smali bcads. Rcfer to Method 2 on page 17.
Ali the rings and half thc chains may be tattcd with shuttles 1 and 2 \vithour ending off, so place half thc beads on shuttle I beforc starting thc work. Tat thc Split rings of thc first diagram, mnking a vcry smali picot in thc WWT sccrion of cach ring. As you make the last ring, tat threc-qunrtors of it with shuttle 1 and the remaining quartcr in WWT with shuttle 2. This brings hoth shuttles to thc same position as thc picots on the other rings.
The noughts first...
With the same sidc of thc work upwards, consider shuttle 1 as n bali thread and place it around your hand. Thcn with shuttle 2 tat the first chain, sliding thc beads into place as rcquircd. Skip one ring and atrach thc chnin with n lock join to the picot of thc next ring. Place the remaining half of thc beads on a matching bali thread and thcn wind shuttle 3 CTM, keeping thc beads beside thc bali. With a lock join atrach this new thread to thc ring you skipped with shuttle 2. Tat a similar beaded chain to thc first one. Beforc you join this chain to the next frcc picot, position shuttles 1 and 2 so that a crisscrossing of chains is cffcctcd. Rcfcr to thc second diagram. Concinue making and joining chains, altcmating them in the crisscross unril thc other end of the rings.
