Figurę 7. Sword of the late Iron Age, circa A.D. 400, from a bog ar Nydarn in Denmark. The four narrow fullers of this blade, and the way in which they run together at the point, are exacdy paralleled by examplcs used in N. Africa in the 19th century by the Hausa and Tuareg tribes. So, also, occasionally was this type of liilt! (Nationalmuseet, Kobcnhavn). BL: 76.2cm.
Figurę 8. This is a typical sword of the Yiking Age, circa 900-950. Found in the River Thames in London (now in the British Museum ), it bears the smith-name INGF.LRII inlaid in iron letters in the blade.
