III. Other forms of LYRIC POETRY:
- aubade - ‘dawn song’; medieval and Renaissance love lyric,
- elegy - poem of mourning,
- limerick - fixed verse form; aabba; popularised by Edward Lear; witty or humorous, sometimes obscene,
- ode - elaborate lyric poem of an elevated style; first odes - ancient Greek poets and the Roman poet Horace; 19th century Romantic odes (William Wordsworth, John Keats),
- villanelle - lyric poem of French origin; nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme: aba aba aba aba aba abaa; most famous example: Dylan Thomas’ “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night”

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Ragę, ragę against the dying of the light.
