III. Other forms of LYRIC POETRY:

-    aubade - ‘dawn song’; medieval and Renaissance love lyric,

-    elegy - poem of mourning,

-    limerick - fixed verse form; aabba; popularised by Edward Lear; witty or humorous, sometimes obscene,

-    ode - elaborate lyric poem of an elevated style; first odes - ancient Greek poets and the Roman poet Horace; 19^th century Romantic odes (William Wordsworth, John Keats),

-    villanelle - lyric poem of French origin; nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme: aba aba aba aba aba abaa; most famous example: Dylan Thomas’ “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night”

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Ragę, ragę against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. (...)
